It starts but as soon as it's put into gear acts like it wants to go but quits.

Could be a few things. But here are the obvious. Check for a vacuum leak around the intake. When you put the car into drive it starts putting strain on the engine, a vacuum leak will give it too much oxygen and cause a fuel mixture issue / reading.
If nothing wrong there, you may have a bad throttle position sensor. When you put the car into drive and it starts putting strain on the engine it will pull the idle down then the sensor will adjust it automatically. Hope this helps.

Rpm fluctuation

There is an idle advance sensor, which increase the idle speed when the A/C is switched on, to stop the car stalling on tick over because of the load the A/C pump puts on the engine. The sensor may be giving wrong information to the ECU.

My 92' maxima has been shutting off at low rpm,

You can have more than 1 problem. Usually the trans or ECM senses an increased strain like going up a hill and downshifts the trans to bring up RPM to maintain speed. When another unknown component compares the downshift to the programming, if it does not match it may shut off the engine.

It is possible that the programming in the car has been corrupted and needs to be refreshed with new instructions. This is a dealer service job.

Engine squeaks and car puts out a lot of exhaust

may have a bad fan belt, also the exhaust ,you might want to have it checked for a tune up, and have your oxygen sensors tested. start there, good luck.

The idle drops when i put it in gear almost stalling the engine

That is normal, in park or neutral there is no resistance on the engine when you put it in gear there is resistance because the car wants to move. Also when you turn on the ac that turns on the compressor that is run off the belts of the engine so it puts more resistance on the engine. Low idle is not a problem unless the engine dies.
