Explain "Power".. Are your Head lights bright?

If you have power windows roll them down and watch the headlights.

If the go extremely dim. It's the battery...

Let me know how much power you have...

    Turn the radio on also....

Lghts/radio/windows should work if the battery is good and charged.

Car every now and then wont start ,turn the key and nothing plenty of power there ,then 5 -20 mins starts

Hey Bill , Do you have any lights lit on the dash when it won't start , SECURITY ? What make ,model an year vehicle ? With out vehicle info it's hard to tell you anything ! I need to look at a wiring diagram to see what is involved all , starter relay , anti-theft system etc.. Newer vehicles the ignition switch is a input to the BCM - body control module . The BCM energizes relays that power up the vehicle ,send messages on the serial data bus to the PCM to enable the starter relay !

Need to replace cables to starter from battery. need a wiring diagram.

You need no diagram to see or replace any battery cables

They are large enough you can see & feel them from
the top & bottom of the car.

I'm not saying it is an easy job by any means but needing
any info, then you need a repair shop as you have not got
that involved working on you own vehicles over the years

The cables should be okey as they aren't so old that they
would be corroded inside, unless you had several batteries
leak on them

They way to test them after you remove both ends, clean &
replace,is called a voltage drop test

You can use you search engine to study voltage drops on cars

Just need a decent volt meter

The clicking is most likely a bad starter solenoid

You can replace that or the entire starter or pull the starter
& have it tested at the auto parts store

There is nothing shorted, that is another subject you
can study

Keep in mind, a battery can last 8 or 9 years as mine
seem to,or fail every 4 years, as on my wifes car.

Turn on key and everything works but starter, got new starter but still nothing, can start with screw driver on the starter but not the key, is there a relay or something I need to change

there is a relay, but there are several other possible reasons for this condition. The safety interlock may have failed open, or it could be your security system too. I would need to know your model, year and engine size to check the wiring diagram.

Please see my tip at . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

1984 ford f-150 4x4 ignition wiring diagram i need to see a break down wire for wire from starter to soloid to voltage regulator new starter new ignition module new started soloid and vechicle will not...

when looking at it from the front the most left is from the battery, now going right from there the little pin is from ignition, basically to flip this giant switch on. next little pin goes to your fuel shut off relay, it will turn on that relay to send power to your pump while cranking, next is the large out. far right. that goes to your starter.

Wont turn over with key?

W/out knowing details on your vehicle, it makes it very difficult to help. Year? Stick or auto>? engine/trans info. Does it have an alarm installed or a factory security system?

Common checks would be park/neutral switch (Or clutch switch if its a stick), fuses (some cars actually fuse the start signal), old alarm brain that has activated and cut off starter signal, and do the cluster lamps go into SELF TEST and all light up when you turn the key to CRANK. If the lamps do the normal cranking bulb check, then likely your ignition switch is working. depending on the year, ford ignition switches sometymes could be a common problem. But without info to look up a diagram, cant offer more help than generalities
