My 97 chevy cavalier hood wont open, please help

I purchased this used and now I need to change the oil and I can't get the hood open. The cable inside is still attached but a little loose so it doesn't pull it enough to open it . It looks like the hood is sprung as it aligns on the sides of the hood but has about a 3 inch gap in front.

You should be able to unscrew the hood latch release from the interior of the car and take the cable loose so you can pull the cable out more also once it is released put it back together and adjust the release from the front of the car should be three bolts.

Hood won t close

Check out the cable connection between the latch and your internal latch control. Till you locate the problem I would suggest tying down the hood with some sort of strap so it does not pop open at speed.

The hood latch is brock and I cant open the hood

if you can see your lock assembly through the grille, then you have a good chance og opening your hood, the lock assembly had a cable attached to it, i used a long handle screw driver and popped mine open, also did you try taking a pair of vise grips and locking them on the cable from the inside of the vehicle and pulling with a little force, that should open her right up. Good luck.

Knowing that the cable needs to be replaced But it has broken completly from the inside of the cab, I am still wondering is there away to open the hood so I can check the oil and fkuids until it can be...

If the handle is missing, cut the casing away from the cable to expose some of it inside of the cabin. Pull the exposed portion with a pair of pliers. Once the hood is open, take a piece of wire and attach it to the lock mechanism. Make sure it's long enough that you can either pull it through the grill or from under the vehicle as an alternative means of opening the hood. I hope I've helped. If so please rate my assistance. Thank you and Happy Holidays.

My hood cable is broke from the inside how can i open my hood?

well if it is broke on inside, you can peel back a little on cable, then pull on the cable with vise grips to open hood. if that does not work for you. you can use a coat hanger and go through grill to grab latch and open hood.

Hood latch release inside cable will not realease hood

The cables and latch become dirty and corroded, and the spring wrapped cabbles can even rust on the inside.
The cable itself may have broke.
if you are able you can lay down under the front reach up through the grill and you just have to feel your way take a short screw driver and feel where the cable connects to the latch, use the screwdriver for a lever and pry the latch open.
once it is open have someone pull the release and watch for movement,if it does clean the latch ,spray cable lube into the cable while moving.
then adjust the latch a little, not to much at a time or the hood will be loose.
Of course if there is no movement in the cable it means its broke and will have to be replaced

Hood release cable not attached to release mechanism under the hood. Can the hood be popped (opened) from front?? . Battery went dead and when I tried to open the hood the cable was loose (detached)

This same thing happened to my Blazer. If you reach your hand up behind the front bumper and use a hammer you can hit the release latch and it will open.

When inside latch is pulled it will open a little, but the latch under the hood wont move, its stuck? or stripped?

there is a small metal cable attached to the latch inside. adjust the cable to where it is tighter and it should pop open correctly.

Hood release cable isn't connected to interior hood release lever

Your going to have to use vice grips or pliers. Just pull hard till you hear the hood pop open or have a friend push down on the hood so you can pull in the hood cable easier to unlock the hood latch. Good luck and keep me posted.
