Question about 1989 Ford F 150

See description to the left

Driving down the highway at about 60 and the truck just quit. I waited for a bit and it restarted. The same thing happened on the way to and from work for the last 3 days. It is about 10 minutes into the drive. Ran fine last weekend and up until this past Wednesday afternoon. I am getting fuel up to the point when it enters the engine. Have checked the lines and filter. Have added Heat to both tanks just in case of moisture. No warning lights or coughs or sputters, just quits. HELP

Ford 1989 F 150
Is this 4.9 L (6) cyl. ?
Truck runs until hot then quits. Cools down then runs again.

You can get error codes. Many auto parts stores will have free loaner meters to read them.

It could be the hall effect sensor in the distributor. You need to test for injector pulse and if you don't have a pulse, the hall effect sensor will be suspect. This sensor checks for crankshaft position in earlier models instead of a cranks position sensor. The TFI module plugs in near it.
Use a noid light for Ford plugged into an injector and crank the engine to see if it lights.

My 1998 chevy blazer died going down the highway, what is wrong?

Multiple possibilities. Will start with easiest/cheapest. You don't mention check engine light (that would give codes), so I'll go with the same issue we've had with newer Blazers. That would be the ECM in the distributor. When ours started going bad, it would cut-off intermittently. Well one day the intermittent was terminal. Anew ECM, for the 2.8 V6 (1987) is approx 45.00. You would have to price it for your vehicle based on year and engine size. The worst case scenario is loss of timing gear. (That happened on our 67 Buick with 300 V8). Another thought is what happened to a friend. He's putzing on down the highway when his 88 Pontiac Grand Am simply quit. His computer had bit the big one. Those are the only things that come to mind, other than running out of gas or your alternator had quit charging your battery and the battery finally lost enough power to spark the plugs.

Just turns off on it's own, Wait 60 sec. restart press pedel it dies.

This engine is electronically controlled so the first thing that must be done here is to have the systems control computer tested for fault codes and then do the proper diagnostics based on those codes.

2004 sport trac engine died as driving

I also have a 2004 sport trac and I had the same thing happen to me on the highway and in town. I thought that it might have been a fuel problem but I was wrong. When it finally quit restarting, it was towed in and the problem was the crank sensor. Apparently it is really close to the belts and it is susceptible to wear.

The coil wire slide on type ( not Bolt on ) have a tendansy to expand if they get to hot, thus causing an open in your ignition system and shutting down your engine. much the same as driving down the highway and sudenly turning off your key. After a period of cool down you turn the key and the motor firers up right away because the coil cap has had a chance to cool down as well and cuntract to its original shape ounce again and is ounce again making proper contact, untill it gets to hot again and then the same thing will happen.Solution replace the coil half cap and wires to it.

Check ALL your ground wires, neg. battery cable, frame ground ect.
If this does not help, go directly to your VOLVO dealer, you do not want the air bags to deploy when you are driving down the highway !

Mate .2 things. The oil pressure sending unit is playing up or its not.The other is how long since an oil /filter change. If you know the oil is ok ,get the sender unit fixed.Oil is a lot cheaper than metal if things are not right. If it happens all of a sudden, the sender unit may be at fault.Hope this helps

Shuddering/jerking on highway, pull over, wont start for 30 mins

Last time I had that happen in a car everything blew. I found out the root of the problem was my timing chain, but I can tell you, you don't want to wait to get that checked out in any case or you will end up with a lot more problems.
