This is a 4-wheel drive pickup and it recently ran out of gas. When it heats up it will shutdown and will not restart until it cools off. This started after it ran out of gas.
We have replaced the coil, the fuel filter at the rear of the gas tank,
This behavior is very consistent.
Check the fuel filter at the inlet of the carburator.
A car or a jeep will shutdown automatically only when it gets overheated than the allowable prescribed temperature.you can check for the following things.
1. check if the cooling fan runs without any problem. if yes go to second step, for the option no, then check out electrical connection in the fuse section leading to the fan.
2. check the thermostat for good functioning.
3. this might be due to the coolant problem. check the whole coolant system and the valves present in them.
thanks for contacting fixya!. hope your problem is tackled soon.
Most likely it is a problem of the fuel pump. Check the fuse first for the fuel pump then the relay and then see if its getting power. That can also be a bad fuel filter ,but it wont go all the sudden like that, the relay or a blown fuse will cause it not to start like that one is doing, the relays on those cars did cause some problems, so i would check that first.
Change the coil thats all it is it is overheating need a new one done deal
Sounds like the ignition control module.

If it were the ignition control module the thing would not start at all. It restarts after it cools down and the only thing being affected is the fuel supply, there is plenty of spark at the plugs and the coil. This is fuel-injected and it may be a sensor like the Hall Effect or MAP sendor but that is why I asked for your opinion.
I posted in my original statement of the problem tha the coil was just changed, it is brand new.
We put a new fuel filter in and have checked the fuel pump pressure and that is all fine. The fuel had been dirty but it was clean the last time we checked.
What is odd is that as soon as it cools down 30 minutes it will allow a restart every time. If I try to restart in 15 minutes she won't go. Plenty of spark just appears to be no fuel getting there. A relay cna misbehave and I have another doge that this happens on but this one seems to be sensor related. I know there is a Map sensor somewhere and something called a Hall Effect sensor and there is also an O2 sensor. I just don't know if those may be the problem or where to look for them.
I replaced the fuel filter and had a friend carnk the motor before connecting the feed line to the injecotr side until I saw clean fuel. I even collected a cups worth of gas to examine in better light and it was clean. When I first removed the old filter I got a blackish thick emission ot of it which led to a new filter and then forcing the inginiton to run the pump with the line disconnected to cear any gunk.
If there was still gunk remaing and it randomly rolled around and stopped the motor I could follow the logic that I still had filthy fuel but the problem we are seeing is that it is too repetiely consisten and a heat source int he engine compartment has a hard time affect the fuel in the tank. On top of that is the restart time, always 30 minutes no sooner. That reeks of being a computer part or sensor.
I appreciate your thought train.
