Question about 2006 GMC Canyon

Intermittant light/turn signal problem

Sometimes, when brake pedal is depressed, left turn signal indicator will dimly light up and the "clicking" you usually hear when the turn signals are on will click once when the pedal is depressed and once when released. Also, occassionally when the left turn signal is turned on, it will blink really fast as when a bulb is out. However, the bulbs are good and both (front and back) are flashing really fast. This truck does have trailer wiring. There are several block connections in the trailer wiring. My first thought is that perhaps there is a problem (possibly corrosion) in one of these connections. I am on may way out to clean them all. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Look for a loose ground wire to the lights themselves. Also the bulb can be bad but you can't see it. The light will seek a ground if it doesn't have a good one. It will "feedback" through the wiring and make the lights act really weird.

2001 Town & country brake lights not working, but the third brake light and tail lights are working. I also just replaced the brake light switch thinking it was the problem, but it wasnt

I think the brake light and turn signal are on the same bulb on these, correct?

If so do the turn signals work?

If they do than I would bet that the turn signal switch itself is the problem. The power for the brake lights is routed through the switch (except for the third brake light that is supplied power directly form the brake switch). The turn signal switch will interrupt power from the brake switch and supply power from the turn signal flasher depending on if the right or left turn signal is engaged.

Sometimes wiggleing the lever or pushing the four way flasher button with the brake pedal depressed will intermittantly cuase the brake lights to work. If this is the case than it is the turn signal switch that is causing the problem.

Would a bad Flasher relay cause the brake lights not to work?

The flasher does not stop the brake lights from working. Check # 18 fuse in fusebox under lower left side of dash. if it's ok, the brake light switch, on the brake pedal arm is next. light green wire with red stripe is hot if fuse 18 is ok. Depress brake pedal, light green with no stripe should have power. if not, replace brake light switch. If light green wire has power with pedal depressed, combination switch under the steering is next. Remove the cover from around the combo switch {under the steering wheel}. depress brake pedal, light green wire should have power. If it does, pedal still depressed, orange with light blue wire & wire with light green & orange should have power. Those 2 wires are brake & rear turn signal wires. { The turn signal switch should be in the middle, not right position or left. while checking for power in the last 2 wires. Good Luck drvolt.

Left turn indicator comes on dimly with application of brakes. No bulbs out.

Lots of possibilities, but the most common is a bad ground of the entire light assembly on the left rear.
That makes the left rear brake filament ground back up through the left rear turn signal ground, through the left rear signal filament, and all the way back up to the dash left indicator light, then finally to chassis ground. Just check if the left brake and left signal are both dim and come on together.

99 silhouette.all bulbs are in working order.right (not left) signal flashes fast when headlights are on and even worse when brakes depressed(lights on or off).also lights on both rears are real strange on...

I had similar symptoms - rapid flashing of directional when headlights on and brake depressed when making a left turn, both directional indicators in dash light dimly when brake depressed, "Check Traction Control System" indicator On even with ATC turned Off and "strange" indications in tail lights.

Check the pins in the connector at the Lamp Holder Assembly for your Rt. Tail Light for arcing and corrosion. (The female pin is in the vehicle harness connector and the male is part of the Lamp Holder Assembly.) If found, because the male connector is part of the Lamp Holder Assembly, you'll have to replace the Lamp Holder Assembly and the harness section coming in from the vehicle containing the female connector.

I just repaired this problem in the left tail light on my '01 van with a part from a '99 van I found at a local salvage yard.
