You need to check the voltage in the battery. Depending on the quality of the battery, 3 years in some cases means its time for a new one. Have it checked first before you replace it. Auto zone or any good service place can check the battery to determine how good it is.

So I have a 1999 vw jetta been sitting for five years but won't start what should I do?

make sure the engine turns over by hand. if it does install a new battery, change the fuel as it will probably have gone bad. check oil levels. then try to start it and listen to what it sounds like(no bad noises).

Why does my 1998 vw beetle not turn over but the lights flash and the horn blows when trying to start

How old is your battery? Car batteries only last 3-5 years depending on the cost when purchased. Low cost closer to 3 years and higher cost batteries closer to 5 years. Horn and Flashers use very little energy and will work even with a low battery. Have the battery tested or switch it with a friend that has a good battery to see if your car will start.

Hi! I've had a 2004 VW Jetta since last November (had 39K on it). It has worked perfectly throughout the winter and spring. Not that it's summer, I've had a small intermittent problem: after...

POSSIBILITY HERE IS THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS ACTING UP. THE REASON IS BECAUSE WITH THE WARMER TEMPERATURES THE PUMP HAS TO WORK MORE AND THIS WILL CAUSE IT TO MALFUNCTION

MY 2002 FORD T-BIRD WAS IN STORAGE FOR 6 MONTHS WITH A BATTERY TENDER. IT WON'T START, JUST CRANKS.THIS HAPPENED LAST YEAR. IT FINALLY STARTED AFTER ABOUT 1000 ATTEMPTS. LAST YEAR WE HAD NOT USED A BATTERY...

I've got an old corvette that I store also. I basically disconnect the battery and when I'm ready I charge it for 3 hrs, then start the car. Usually get close to 6 and a half years out of a battery. Five ain't so bad.

Jetta VW - 1999 won't start. Push started. Battery good. What should we look at first?

Good chance you either need a new starter, or ignition switch. Also, check the battery terminals for any sulfur corrotion. If there is, clean off with water and baking soda mix to neutralize the acid. stiff wire brush the terminals if possible, but if you do not have a memory saver plugged into the aux voltage input(cigarette lighter), you will loose Radio, TCM, and ECM programming when batterey is disconnected.
