Question about 1996 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

Multiple electrical problems

96 Jetta must be roll-started,the hazard lights flash for several minutes then stop, the speedometer stopped working, and now the trunk lid won't open.I have a Chilton manual, but I'm not having much luck.Any help is welcome. I have a problem with the speedometer, odometer, and the cruise control going out at the same time. I also have an airbag light that won't go off. I had diagnostic code PO 501 (speed sensor), I bought the speed sensor and replaced it and I am still getting the 501 code. I am guessing that the ECU is messed up or a wire is disconnected. Does anyone have any answers?

Chase grounds first (start at the battery), sounds like you have a case of the missing ground which will force other semi related circuits to activate or cease to function as they are being used as a ground for the powered circuit.

I use one side of a jumper cable when searching these out. This allows me to reestablish the ground where ground might be missing. When you find it, step back and re cause the fault again to make sure you have it right rather than just a coincidence.

Secondly I would look for loose connection at the firewall where the two harnesses come together or any other place where the harnesses are plugged one into another as well as the main fuse box and relay box.

Inspect these connectors carefully and make sure the tiny tabs in the individual connectors are all intact in the female end as well as the male end.

My 2000 Ford Windstar is having some electrical issues. I was driving it home and the AC stopped working the radio went dead the odometer went dead my turn signals did not work and I could not roll down...

Check your alternator. My van did something similar. I was driving down the road and all of the sudden my windows, a/c, radio, door locks, speedometer, everything electrical went down. We stopped and tried to crank it and it wouldn't. Then finally it cranked up went another mile before the fuel pump quit working too. It was the alternator. I had to have someone come jump me off and follow me to the parts store and then home for it to be fixed.

Electric fault

You might try removing the battery connectors for five minutes and replacing back.

If the codes do not disappear, please you might have to get a scanner to do that.

Cheers.

96 Ford Taurus no turn signals or hazards

Take the turn signal lever and jiggle it, a lot. If they start working, the switch is bad. You can also turn on the hazards and take hold of the button and push it left , right , forward and back and see if they start working. If so, replace the turn signal/ hazard switch.

The rear door driver side window on the Lexus ES300 will not open. The other windows are operating well.

I replace glass in cars for a living and I see this often. I also own an 02 ES300 which had the same problem. It's usually from lack of use that a rear doorglass stops working. The electric motor gets some corrosion in it and stops working. I repeatedly slapped the interior door panel while activating the switch that rolls the glass up or down. After about 5-10 minutes of this it started to work. If you get lucky like I did, make sure you roll the window up and down multiple times if you get it to work. Then remember to occasionally roll all the other windows up and down a few times every week or so to keep this from happening again. Good luck!

Hazard lights wont stop flashing and car wont turn over.

unlock driver door twice consecutively because that's how u disarm the car alarm. As for the radio, input the code that's in ur booklet. If u don't have it, call ur local dealer with the car's serial number and they will give u the radio code. It's 4 digits.
