You will need to get your vehicle to an auto mechanic, or or the dealer. Transmission slipping is not something that can be repaired by the novice tinkerer. You can probably have the transmission rebuilt, or repaired.

If the vehicle is still under warranty, or you've purchased an extended warranty, you may be able to have the repair done at little to no cost to you.

I have a new shift solenoid for it, do I need to drop the whole transmission to replace it or just the pan?

Just the pan usually . How do you know which solenoid ? There are five of them inside . Normally when one goes out it sets a check engine light an a DTC - diagnostic trouble code .

Why would my Santa Fe transmission stop engaging

the indicated problem is that the torque converter clutch servo/solenoid has failed
Take it to an accredited professional auto transmission shop for a proper diagnosis and quote
it will be unlikely a box failure , but more like the TCM unit or wiring problem or solenoid failure

Which fuse runs speedometer for hyundae santa fe

The fuse for the instruments also powers the speedometer as well as the other instruments. If your speedo only is not working, it may be a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the transmission or the speedometer itself may be defective.

Our 2001 Santa Fe has developed a roar. I thought

If your noise is a low pitch rumble that gets louder the faster you go, it likely is a wheel bearing that is the cause. Another sign that the noise is from a wheel bearing is if the noise tends to get louder when steering one direction at a steady speed, and quieter when steering the other direction. A transmission noise does not change with the steering.

My 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe shifts really hard from 2nd to 3rd, almost as though the transmission slips

If there is no check engine light on - check the transmission fluid by pulling out the dip stick (check the level and smell the fluid if it smells burnt, there is an internal problem with the transmission) if all this is ok then the problem may be one of the speed sensos or (pulse generators)
