Hesitating and no heat. Could these be related?

I have a '98 Auto, 4 cyl, Jeep Wrangler, 140k miles. For about 2 years it has been hesitating in low gear. when I press the gas it's like there is no fuel getting to the engine because it does not accelerate and then all of a sudden it will lurch into gear with a jolt and drive fine for awhile. It used to also misfire when hesitating and sometimes stall when idling. New spark plugs and a new TPS fixed these two problems but it still hesitates. I have also had no heat for about the same amount of time. The heater only blows luke warm air and takes a moment to switch through the different settings on the dash. The temp on my gauge says it's only getting up to 120 degrees... 170 at most when I'm on the highway or driving up a steep hill. When I replace the thermostat the heat will be a little warmer and the temp gauge will read around 190 degrees for awhile until the t-stat fails again. I've been through 3 in less than a 2 years. Are these related possibly? I was told by someone that it could be a vacuum leak? I'm a girl in my 20s and know very little about Jeep engines. Please help!

This sounds like multiple things. You do have a vacuum leak, it also sounds like the EGR valve is stuck. There is no reason to be replacing thermostats that often.

SOURCE: engine runs fine when started, put it in reverse and it starts to

probably neither. You should do a compression check, and check your transmission fluid for dicoloration and metal shavings.

your carburetor should have a fuel filter in the carburetor body where the
fuel line enters it replace it and, any other in-line fuel filter the engine might have

Hesitation is usually a dirty throttle body and idle air control motor.

Why is my jeep hesitating, going up a hill or when flooring it to pass?

nice facts, all, but no engine size options stated.
after all it's an ENGINE question.
you dont know whats there, and doing DIY> really?

one fact missing, and is key
does WOT power CATCH up
that is you move right foot fast and it bogs, we get that but what happens after the bog> ? more bog or it catches up.
if it dont catch up;, on hills, maybe fuel pressure low.
see?
at WOT there is no 02 sensors. nor TPS (enrich)
at WOT only you , then engine sucking air like mad the MAF at max voltage and if fuel pressure is low the car has endless bog.
see?

wot, = wide open throttle, use a hill to test, flat is useless .
max fuel is at max HP (max torque + max RPM both same time)

i own an 08 wrangler, 3.8L stick.
i just sold my 02,. with 2.4L I4, it was a bogging engine day one out of factory its a gut less I4. (only tubo can fix it)
2.4 or 4.0 L.
ive own all of them 4 and 6cyl.

Burns to much gas

my similar problem on 4 cyl jeep was cured by replacing both O2 sensors and coolant temp sensor (for second time). Also problem seemed to be related to putting too much oil on spector air filter and using carb cleaner which appeared to foul O2 sensors (a second time). replace sensors O2 sensors a 2nd time, stopped carb cleaner and now wipe off excess air filter oil and let dry in sun, and fuel economy went back up to 75-80+ miles per 1/4 tank of gas (vs. 55-60 miles per 1/4 tank of gas with fouled sensors).

Replaced radiator and tstat still over heating, water pump a little over a month old

my used 4 cyl jeep radiator would only drain 1/2 of the fluid. jumped up and down on bumper and this dislodged the sludge in radiator and/or engine. flushed twice, then now notice low temp reading on gauge (out of specs) due to a low temp thermostat that someone installed due to previous over heating (sludge). Replace with factor spec thermostat and everything is fine.

I have a 98 jeep cherokee that is hesitating when taking off, after it heats up it is worse, it will misfire, hesitate and jerk when accelerating. The fuel pump, crank sensor, the plugs, wires, distributer...

Check the fuel pressure. If you have 30K miles on your jeep and the spark plugs in this motor need to be replaced. Jeep Grand Cherokees are notorious for not doing well with fuel with lower octane. Fill your Jeep with at least medium grade gasoline, especially if it has been shuddering or hesitating while you're attempting to accelerate.

1998 wrangler 4 cyl 110,000 miles. The engine

quite possibly it may be taking a little while to build fuel pressure. next time try cycling the key on and off 3 or 4 times with out cranking the vehicle to allow the pump to build pressure the try to star it up if it starts right up then your problem is it's just taking time to build pressure

Two front cylinders are low

If your going to chg. head gasget, as long as you got the head off you would be smart to have a valve job done too. That could be why you lost compression in the 2 cyls. burnt valves will cause loss of compression. But take note if you elect to have a valve job done you also run the risk of it to start useing oil because of the increase in compression on the oil rings with that many miles it can happen.

Low oil psi after driving 25 miles

Have a shop verify the pressure is really low, it could just be the sending unit is defective for the oil press guage, but get it checked, if it really low you could burn out the bearing in your engine, a very costly repair.
