Question about 1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

1 Answer

Wiper just suddenly stopped working on 1998 C230 Mercedes.

The wiper motor will work when turned on. The wiper doesn't move when the motor is activated. You can move the wiper from side to side by hand and the wiper extends back and forth. I removed the cover and both guides are greased properly and the set screw on the wiper is tight. I don't know how to properly access the gears to see if they are stripped.

Are you talking about the set screw at the end of the wiper arm? This is accessed by removing the small plastic cover. Or is the nut you are talking about located under the large plastic cover?

Wiper not working

Sounds like you damaged the gear drive that operates the wiper arms, time for new wiper motor assembly is my guess. Don't use the wipers to brush off snow, very bad idea, the drive gears are plastic and on this old dog very brittle from age.

Wiper blade on my 98 C230 goes a quarter of the way up then stops and makes clicking noise for about 10 seconds. When I move it by hand it will go back into start position. Should I still try the lube...

sounds like the gears inside of the wiper mechanism have gone bad. there is a strip of gears in the shape of a half moon that the wiper motor rides on in order to move the wiper blade back and forth. When those gears strip out the wiper will only move a certain distance and then stop. One way to tell is if you can move the wiper arm by hand. When the gears are good the wiper arm should not move at all by hand.

My window wiper works fine but always stops half up the window how can i adjust it to stop where it should mercedes c280 1994 thanks darryl

Pop the base off the wipe where is attached to wiper motor. Loosen the nut on wiper and move to the bottom and tighten. Should work properly now. Likely loose now which is why it got this way.

My wiper on my C220 just stopped working. Nothing happens when I turn it on. It will move a bit if you puch or pull it. This has happened before and my mechanic said he just had to grease it up a bit to...

I had this same problem with mine and the bolt was stripped out. It would work very sluggish and sometime not work at all...wipers seem to be a big problem with alot of mercedes because of the one big wiper...that is if you can still hear the wiper motor running... otherwise your wiper motor may be out...but i doubt it where it will work some.

The wiper quit working

it sounds like the ball socket linkage has parted as you should not be able to move the wipers with ease.
