Question about 1987 Ford F 150

1 Answer

1987 Ford F150 4.9L will not start.

I replaced the external fuel pump. Now it will not start. There is a canister on the frame rail that has 4 fuel lines. It appears to be leaking. What is it? How can I get a replacement?

It looks like that small canister is the fuel pressure regulator. Here are links to a diagram and a few pictures of the regulator. Post back if the canister doesn't look like this.. If it is, it would explain your problem if the part was bad.

Post back if this isn't the part you described and I'll research it further. Best of luck.

I have an 1987 F-150. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Still sputters and has a lack of power. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a plugged fuel filter or filters, you may have two filters, one is the can shaped filter on the front inside frame rail drivers side, about the size of a coke can, the other is a black plastic canister back towards the tank, some early 1987's still had a paper filter inside the screw off bottom of the canister, they plugged really easy. Check both.

Are there fuel filters in the canisters on the passenger side frame rail on a 87 dakota?

No, the fuel filter is under the hood, front passenger side of the motor. Look below the alternator. What you found on the frame is the "vapor canister", has to do with emissions.

Where is the fuel filter located on 1984 ford ranger? 2.3l fuel injection 2 wheel drive

Hi. Your inline fuel filter is a molded plastic mesh type, designed to protect the electrical fuel boost pump from contamination. It is located on the left hand side frame rail about 2 feet away from the rear of the fuel boost pump.

Yes there are two (2) fuel pumps on these pickups, one low pressure one in the tank that gets the fuel to the high pressure pump which is in the inside of the drivers frame rail beneath the cab towards the front of the cab.

Fuel flow or fuel filter problems

The fuel filter should look like a short soup can on the inside of the driver's side frame rail between the fuel tank and the engine. If a new filter does not fix your problem, have the fuel pressure checked, your fuel pump may have lost pressure and need to be replaced (fuel injected models).

1991 FORD F-150 WITH 2 FUEL TANKS... LOOKING FOR LOCATION OF THE FUEL PUMP AND IS THERE A VALVE BETWEEN TANKS, IF THERE IS WHERE IS THAT LOCATED?

Fuel pump is located under the driver door frame inside rail and the filter is in front of it 12" or so, it is a large metal canister type.. The switching valve is located just behind the cab/drivers side on the inside frame rail. I am sure there is a story behind this, like no fuel or something and knowing the rest of the problem would help us help you and dad. Thanks, I hope it helps.
