Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy

Broken Hazard Switch

I replaced the factory stereo and the hazard switch itself broke during the process. Now the hazard lights are on all the time so I had to put the switch back in place and run electrical tape around the steering column to hold it down. How do I replace the switch without going back to the dealer? GMC Jimmy, 2000

I went to a parts store and they said the only way to do it is to replace the entire turn signal/cruise control/hazard switch unit, that you couldn't replace just the switch.

So you're saying it is possible, as long as I can find the switch alone at a salvage yard? That would be great if so.

    Thank you.

After replacing the stock stereo the hazard lights won't work

If the hazard switch was in the vacinity of the stereo you were replacing, you might have accidentally knocked a wire loose. I would check the connections to the hazard switch.

Turn signal lights don't work

The first place to start are fuses, check your owners manual for location, typically left side of dash.

The emergency (hazard) flashers and turn signals are on separate fuses and run through the hazard switch. If all the lights work when the hazard switch is on then the problem will likely be a blown turn signal fuse.

Other possibilities are the hazard switch itself is bad, the turn signal switch is bad or a broken wire, all of which require a meter (or test light) wiring diagram and knowledge of the circuit to test it - better to have it done.

The hazard light switch broke and my hazards won't quit flashing tired sticking two screws in there now blinkers don't work

At this point you will need to replace the multifunction switch. It looks like used may be a good option for your vehicle. This is a relatively easy part to replace. You will need a couple TORX sockets but other than that its pretty straight forward once you remove the column covers.

How to fix no brake light issue on 1999 Expedition

Have you tried wiggling the hazard light switch? The brake light switch puts 12 volts to the hazard/turn signal switch, and the switch will apply this to both taillights. If you turn on the left or right turn signal,it will only route 12 volts to the other light. If you turn on the hazard lights,it will only allow the 3rd brake to come on due to the brake switch.Often.the hazard light/brake light contacts get corroded due to not being turned on and off regularly.Have someone watch the taillights(or use a mirror) to see if they come on when you wiggle the hazard switch. If it does, turn the hazard light switch on and of repeatedly to clean the contacts.

The hazard lights are sticking on and draining the battery

Hi.

Replace the hazard lights switch.

Series 3 hazard light switch malfunctions are quite common. The switch may not work, or like in your case, it may short and drain the battery. You can find the procedure to remove the switch summarily described on this forum.

The switch can be tested disconnecting it from wires, and using an Ohmmeter on its contact to ensure it is opening and closing fine, and not sticking.

If the switch is fine, wiring, alarm system and crash sensor must be tested. The most common reason for this kind of problem is the switch itself.

Hazardd switch on steering column broke cant stop lights blinkin

You don't need to remove the column off to replace the hazard switch.
1. Take a pair of neede nose pliers and just pull the old one out.
2. Lube up you new one and just slide it in.
The part numbers for the hazard switch are: 15174447 (retails for $16.23) & 15177379 (retails for $18.42). You have to look for the bar code on the top of the turn signal (multifunction) switch. If the number is 26083635, 26083636, or there is no bar code use the 15174447 hazard switch. If the barcode number is 26090641, 26090642, 26096832, or 26096833 use the other hazard switch (15177379). Now these numbers came off of the recall that was for the 2000 & 2001 S/T trucks so they may not work back too far. But I know that one of those switches works back to 96 (and maybe 95).
Thank you for using Fixya and this should take you about 5 min to replace. Good luck

Brake Lights do not work and hazard button is stuck

I could not tell you how many times people have brought their cars into my shop and tell me that they had already checked all fues and they are OK, then I check the car and find a blown fuse or a fuse that is completely missing.

Your dash (Instrument Cluster) illumination lights are powered by the "PARK LP" fuse in the underhood fuse panel - it is fuse number 37 and should be a 20 Amp fuse. If this fuse is blown, your Park lights on the exterior of the car will also not be working. If they are working and your dash lights are not, then the problem is probably in your headlamp switch.

Your Brake lights are powered by the "STOP LAMP" fuse in the instrument panel (IP) fuse block it is a 15 Amp fuse.

Your Hazzard lights are powered by the "HAZZARD" fuse in the (IP) also a 15 Ap fuse.

If both of these fuses are good, then the most likely problem with your brake and hazzard lamps is the multifunction (Turn Signal) switch.

What any of the above has to do with replacing your window regulators remains a mystery.

Can't get brake lights to work checked the brake switch and bulbs ,no luck

Ok you checked for power on both sides of the brake light switch? and you have power on both wires with the brake pedal pressed? and no brake lights? there is a wire broke somewhere between then brake light switch and the lights.
make sure the hazard switch is turned off completely because the brake lights run through the turn signal/hazard switch.
