Here's a link to a web site to give you a diagram for your serpentine. Just insert the year, make, model, and engine size. Once there, you will see to the left a link below the part number called "Routing diagram". Best of luck on your repair.

My 1996 oldsmobile acheiva is leaking antifreeze but it doesn't seem to be a leak in the radiator. Could my water pump need replacement?

Sounds like the radiator is OK...if you cannot see any visible leaks...if you have inspected upper and lower radiator hoses and connections...it could be the water pump...however you should be able to see some antifreeze around the water pump pulley...changing the water pump on your Oldsmobile is not a major job...you do not have to remove any motor mounts to do this...only if your serpentine belt is worn and needs replacement...your Olds will require the removal of the upper motor mount in order to change the serpentine belt...sounds like you are on the right track...:)

Installing water pump in 97 cavalier 2.2

Hi. Here's the proceudere on how to replace the water pump of your 97 Chevy Cavalier.

•1
Drain the cooling system. Place a large oil drain container under the drain fitting located on the bottom of the radiator. Turn the drain fitting counterclockwise until fluid is draining from the radiator. Use a pair of pliers to turn the drain fitting if you cannot turn it by hand. Turn the fitting clockwise to tighten it after all of the fluid has drained from the radiator.
•2
Remove the cooling fan. Disconnect the electrical connection from the fan motor. Remove the bolts holding the fan assembly to the radiator support with a ratchet wrench. Pull the fan assembly up from the engine compartment and remove it.
•3
Remove the serpentine belt. Place a wrench over the belt tensioner and rotate the tensioner to release the tension on the belt. Pull the belt off the pulleys and remove it from the vehicle.
•4
Remove the water pump pulley. Place a screwdriver behind the pulley to lock it in place while removing the pulley mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench.
•5
Disconnect the coolant hoses running to the water pump.
•6
Remove the water pump mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench or wrench and remove the water pump from the vehicle.
•7
Clean the mating surfaces of the engine block and new water pump with a towel saturated with lacquer thinner.
•8
Apply a thin layer of RTV sealer to both sides of the new water pump gasket and place the gasket on the new water pump.
•9
Place the water pump against the engine block and finger tighten the water pump mounting bolts to hold the pump in place. Tighten the bolts with a torque wrench to 18 foot-pounds.
•10
Place the pulley on the water pump and install the water pump pulley mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench.
•11
Attach any hoses previously disconnected from the water pump.
•12
Install the serpentine belt. Route the belt over the pulleys according to the routing diagram in the engine compartment. Place a wrench over the belt tensioner and rotate the tensioner to tighten the tension on the belt.
•13
Install the cooling fan. Gently lower the cooling fan in position and install the mounting bolts attaching the fan assembly to the radiator support with a ratchet wrench. Attach the electrical connection to the fan motor.
•14
Refill the cooling system to the appropriate level, start the vehicle and check for leaks around the water pump.

All the best!

No power steering, engine cut out but has restarted engine hot fan on, no warm air so take this as a belt problem?

The symptoms you have described sounds most like you had a serpentine belt break or fall off the pulley system (rare but possible). That is a fairly simple job to replace the serpentine belt, whether you replace it yourself or have a professional do the job it isn't a costly repair, providing that is the only problem. There is a serpentine belt routing label under the hood, usually on the plastic piece that goes across the front of the engine compartment near the hood latch release. There is a spring loaded belt tensioner that holds tension on the serpentine belt(labeled on the routing label) rotate the tensioner against the spring pressure, rout the belt according to the routing label, then slowly release tensioner against the new belt and that should complete the installation.Hopefully that is the solution. Good luck !

How do you replace the Serpentine Drive Belt

look at the pulleys, and locate the tensioner. It's usually in the center of all of the pulleys, and has the belt wrap around it, but isn't an obvious accessory like the alternator, PS pump, water pump, or crankshaft. The tensioner will have a square recess in it, allowing you to put a 3/8" square drive ratchet in it. When you turn it, you will notice that teh belt loosens. When it does, slip it off of the tensioner, but hold it in place for reference. Put the new belt on, routing it exactly like the old one, take out the old one, and load the tensioner exactly like you did when you loosened it. Ensure that the belt ribs are seated in the centers of all pulleys, and you are done.

Installing the serpentine belt

The power steering pump is only held on by two bolts that are removed thru the pulley holes. Anyway you don't have to remove the whole motor mount just remove the nut that holds the mount just to the left of the balancer. then remove the stud with a inverted torx bit. then remove the sleeve the stud went thru and then the belt will come off.

Trying to insall serpentine belt on buick lasabre

Here it goes. Start at power steering pump top. Go to right (beneath the tensioner). Then to right, on top of alternator. From there right to wrap around the ac clutch. Here is where it can get confusing. Going back left (above motor mount) on top of water pump pulley. As you wrap around pulley, it makes a really tight squeeze between motor mount and main drive pulley. Once around the main drive, back up to power steering pump. The motor mount does not even have to be disconnected (my fear). I hope this helps.
