Question about 1996 Buick Skylark

1996 Buick Skylark Engine cutting out.

My 1996 Buick Skylark's engine is dying. I will turn the key, the engine will turn over and then it will die immediatly after. The theft engine light is on and I am not sure what the problem is! can anyone help me? Oh my...I have the same problem with my 96 skylark...it started last fall (08). It sat in the street for a week - kept stalling everytime we'd start it...just started working again...now it's stuck at my husband's work doing the same thing. We tried the "turning the key thing" as suggested on here (last year when problem started my uncle told us to try that) and it started, but continues on with the same problem. Have you figured out what your problem is yet??

Hi
you will need to have your car scanned for codes such as
DTC P1629 or P1626

My Buick Skylark starts and dies immediately. Won't stay running

It almost sounds as if the vehicles theft deterrent system is shutting down. Is your vehicle equipped with a theft deterrent system ? If so there's several things that could be wrong or it could be as simple as doing what's called a relearn for that system. Attempt to restart it, once it starts then dies leave the ignition switch in the run position, if equipped with a theft system ( check your owners manual) there will be a light in the instrument panel that will begin flashing , while leaving the ignition switch in the run position wait for about 10 minutes, the light SHOULD stop flashing. Turn the ignition switch to the off position and attempt to start it. If it still bothers you're either dealing with something deeper or different type of a problem. Good luck.

Bypass anti theft in'94 buick skylark that does not have a chip key, just a regular -type key

It dies because the immobiliser is still working as evidenced by the light on. Replace the ignition switch and have the new key programmed to the system

1997 Buick skylark will not start are starts and dies .How to reprogram passlock key

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.
This link may help you find ways to bypass this or fix it yourself.

My 1996 Buick Skylark keeps cutting out and dying while driving down the road

This may be due to the antitheft system. GM's are notorious for these parts failing. When it dies again, look for a light that says "security" somewhere on the dash. If you see this light, this link should help you. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

1997 buick skylark When I turn the key on; the usual dash lights do not come on. When this happens the engine will turn over but immediately dies. When the lights finally come on (took 45 minutes before...

Perhaps the computer is going bad, or the connections to it are bad.

Many lights on the dash are controlled by the computer, including the Service Engine Soon light which should go on when the ignition is turned on as a bulb check feature.

When the car starts and runs under its own power this light should go off and stay off if the emission control systems are in working order.
