Question about 2005 Chevrolet Impala
My thermostat handle will move over the half marker on my dash board but never goes in the red. checked my fluids everything was good, after driving enough for the motor to get hot it starts making like a humming noise when i come to a stop, after putting my car in park it idles up high. i have no low fluids, low oil, battery, alternator none of these lights are on, on my dash board can someone please help, i had this car for 2 yrs. and never had a problem, i keep up the maintaince. this is my only transportation and i have to get my daughter to and from frequent dr. appointments. THANKS!!!!!!
First thing I would suggest doing is using a hydrometer. This is a cheap gizmo that test quality of anifreeze. Make sure it is the correct antifreeze and the quality is good. Also, Use 10w30 oil and not 5w30. 5w30 is for the winter.
Also buy syntheic oil will help. It has a multi-viscosity instead of single. This means the oil will adjust to the temperature.
A coolant flush would also be a good idea. Usually reommended for 4 year maintenance intervals.
How are your coolant hoses? Are the spongy or hard? If so have them replaced.
Thermosat is obviously good.
