Defective tachometer and speedometer

Maybe you guys can help me with the following problems with my 1989 Corolla GTS with 4AGE. 1. As I turn the ignition key to "On" (the engine not yet running) the tachometer immediately reads 2000 rpm. Most of the time also, the tach gets stucked at 2000 rpm when I rev the engine. 2. The speedometer reads 240 kph even if i am only running around 80 kph. This happens 80% of the time.

Do the following:1)key in the ON position:remove the 7.5 gauge fuse.Tach needle should read "0:". 2)put it back,go on the engine and unplug the green plug on the igniter -the big one, with 5 or 6 wires on it.The needle on tach reading should be zero.If not you have a short circuit on the black wire between that plug and the plug on the conbination meter.3) If the reading is zero with the plug disconnected, the black wire for the tach is short-circuited inside the igniter. I have one available.email [email protected]

Looking for engine manual for TOYOTA 1600 16 VALVE 4AGE Called RM-163E and published in 1989

You can get the original Toyota dealer service manual from faxonautoliterature.com. This will have all the info you would need to work on your engine as well as the rest of the car. I have used them before and had excellent service. Hope this helps.

Wanna change the engine in my ae92 corolla.

There are many different types of 4a engines including 4a 4af 4age 4agze but the 5a is a 1.5 8v engine the 4a is a 1.6 usually a 16v. a 4age is a 1.6 16v gti engine that produces 129bhp depending on year later models had a little more. both engines are fuel injected and were produced for roughly the same period of time. from my experience a 4age goes on for ever. hope this helps

Interferance engine/parts sources

This engine is not an interference fit engine. The timing belt can break and not cause damage to the motor. However you never know where or when it will break and the car will not move. I believe Toyota recommends changing it every 60K.

You can probably get most of your parts online easier than at local parts stores.
