Question about 1987 Mazda 626 4 Door

Brakes i am changing rear brake shoes on a 1987 turbo mazda 626 that has disc brakes all round we have taken the calipers off but the pistons wont go right back in therefore we cant put pads in can any one help please

First, loosen the brake fluid reservior cap but dont remove it. Use a large "C" Clamp on the caliper cup to push it back into place. When you do this the fluid in the lines will push its way out the top of your fluid reservior, so you will need a pan under it to keep it off the paint and other componets(brake fluid WILL eat paint). Be sure that you do the caliper that is furthest away from the fluid reservoir first then the other. Once this is done and all is back together, tighten the fluid cap pump the brakes with the engine off untill the pedal is very hard to pump. Next start the car, pump the brakes 10 times, turn off engine, remove the fluid cap and then ,if needed remove excess fluid with an old eye dropper untill the fluid is between low and max.

Your going to need a c-clamp and a block of wood or one of the old pad backings,clamp the wood or backing to the piston so that it can move freely as the piston travels back in,open the bleeder valve and start tightening the clamp,have a rag ready to catch the brake fluid that comes out the valve,if you don't have a clamp you can do this by tapping the wood or backing squarely in the center with a hammer,this is a bit messy,as the fluid is going to squirt out the valve.

Adjusting brakes 1988 mazda capella


You are adjusting brakes, or need to know how to adjust brakes. In general, in between the two shoes on the back there is a screw with a star wheel on it that gets turned with brake pedal is pressed. Sometimes this screw hangs up from lack of turning and needs to be taken apart and lightly lubed. There is usually a plug that can be knocked out in the backing plate behind the shoes so this star wheel can be turned from under the car. Most cars if this screw is turning free can be adjusted tighter by simply backing up and pressing the brake pedal several times. That will keep pushing the star wheel and adjust the brake shoes out. I am talking about rear brakes in general and am thinking that the Mazda has some simularities.

I have a 2003 tiburon and I changed the rear rotors and pads but can't seem to get the caliper back on cause the lower guide pin doesn't slide like the upper one. I have never seen this before is...


YOU NEED TO COMPRESS THE CALIPER PISTON USING SPECIAL TOOL 09580 - 3400 OR YOU CAN USE A LARGE C CLAMP AND THE OLD BRAKE SHOE NEXT TO CALIPER PISTON.BE SURE TO SIPHON OUT 1/3 BRAKE FLUID OUT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER BEFORE COMPRESSING CALIPER PISTON BACK IN THE CALIPER BORE.WHEN YOU FINISH REPLACING REPLACING REAR BRAKE SHOES.MAKE SURE BRAKE MASTERCYLINDER RESERVOIR COVER BACK ON RESERVOIR BACK IN PLACE.THEN PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SEAT BRAKE SHOES AGAINST ROTORS AND UNTIL YOU GET FIRM SOLID BRAKES.THEN CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL.DONT DRIVE CAR IF BRAKE PEDAL FEEL SOFT NOT FIRM.CHECK FOR LEAKING BRAKE HOSE OR LEAKING CALIPER PISTON SEAL.

How do i change the brake pads?


REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  1. Remove disc brake caliper from mounting bracket and support with a length of wire or remove sleeve bolt and rotate caliper up and out of the way to remove shoes. Do not allow caliper to hang by the brake line unsupported.
  2. Remove outboard shoe and lining. Use a suitable tool to disengage shoe springs from holes in caliper housing.
  3. Remove inboard shoe and lining, unsnapping shoe spring from piston.
  4. If installing new shoe and linings, bottom piston in caliper bore using large pliers. Take care not to damage piston or piston boot.
  5. Remove bushings from mounting bolt holes in bracket. To install:
  6. Install new bushings to mounting bolt holes in bracket. Lubricate bushings with silicone grease before installation.
  7. Install inboard shoe and lining by snapping shoe retainer spring into piston. Shoe retainer spring is already staked to the inboard shoe. Shoe must lay flat against piston.
  8. Install outboard shoe and lining by snapping shoe springs into holes in caliper housing. Wear sensor should be at the trailing edge of shoe during forward wheel rotation. Back of shoe must lay flat against caliper.
  9. Install caliper.
  10. Apply approximately 175 lbs. (778 N) of force 3 times to brake pedal to seat linings.

Brakes go to floor changed master cylinder to no avail still to the floor


ok there are a few things you need to check.. you said you changed the master cylinder.. did you bleed the braking system after???

  • remove from wheel,,
  • locate bleed valve on caliper / or unscrew one of the lines
  • pump brake and push right down and hole,,
  • repeat plugging the lines with your finger ,,
  • repeat the above 2 steps a few times
  • tighten the bleed screw while holding the brake right down..
if that fails ...

if that fails try adjusting the brake up.. its on the rear tires,, remove one and them remove the shield protecting the brake shoe,, see the turn bolt that adjust the pistons,, adjust that a bit until the brake is in the desired position..

check your disc pads to see if its wron out..

check your booster / change it..

Rear passenger brake is hanging up any ideas


Do you have drum or disc rear brakes? If drum, the wheel cylinder probably needs to be replaced. If the wheel has overheated at any time, you should also replace the hardware (springs, etc) as they can lose their ability to retract the shoes if overheated. If disc brakes on rear, then the caliper is probably to blame. Has the brake fluid ever been changed? Fluid absorbs moisture (never use brake fluid from an open or not tightly sealed container). After rebuilding or replacing the caliper or wheel cyl. bleed all 4 wheels to flush out old fluid, otherwise you may have other wheels w/ brakes dragging/not releasing. Let me know if this doesn't fix it, I'll help further.

Picture of 1999 Chrysler Cirrus rear disc parking brake system. Is parking brake operated by rear caliper? If so, is there a special procedure for moving the piston inward when replacing the brake pads?


Parking brake is operated by a cable and not the caliper. Your car has disc brake pads for squeezing the rotor to stop, the parking brake has drum type brake shoes that push out on the inside of the rotor. Changing the disc pads only requires squeezing the piston back in like usual.

Replaced shoes, drums,caliper,and springs on rear wheels and know in reverse the right tire locks what is it ?


the shoes not being adjusted properly or if one shoe has more pad than the other like a primary and secondary them wrong will also create this issue, also brake fluid on drums and shoes.

Telstar tx5 rear disc brake piston will not retracted


You take the bolt from behind the cylinder and then you should see a 4mm allen key head. turn it and push cylinder in. take the bleeder valve off to relieve any pressure also and while screwing with an allen key its important to know that it is leftr hand thread. :)

How to change out front brake pads on a 2001 mazda 626?


remove 2 caliper bolts, remove old pads. put new pads in there place, before installing the caliper, be sure to squeeze the piston back in the caliper otherwise it will not fit back over the new pads. than replace the caliper and the 2 mounting bolts.
