1999 Chevy Metro Engine Fans don't work

We have a 1999 Chevy Metro. The engine fans do not come on. We have changed the fuses and the plug. We were told it is in the wiring and we need to wire it to the ignition. How do we do that. Where is the ignition switch on a chevy metro?

Yes, the fan motor works, the fans come on when a wire is hooked directly to the battery, but then we have to unhook the wires everytime we stop to turn the fans off. Someone told us to wire the fan to the ignition switch so they go off when the key is off. But we don't know where the ignition switch is on the metro.

Your idea is great we will try it...thanks so much. Be Blessed

Have you tried running wires directly to the battery to see if the fan motor works or needs to be replaced. Just get some number 10 or 12 electrical wire and run them to the battery. Try that maybe it's just that your fan motor needs to be replaced. Thanks for using Fixya.com...........Enjoy your evening : )

SOURCE: The engine fans do not come on.

befor you do that check the gorunds on the fan motors. jump the fan fuse so it's always on with the key on and ground the fan to the block or frame. if the fan comes on you don't need to worry about the ignition switch

Why want radiator coolant fans works for a 99

There is a fuse box on top of the battery. Check there for melted or corroded fuses. Those like to get all deformed and fans don't work.

Both engine cooling fans behind radiator not working, could this be a blown fuse?

You may want to check and see if either one of the fans are locking up. If one is disconnect it or replace it and change the fuse. The locking up fan will cause your fuse to blow immediately. I personally had this problem with my ford taurus.

Malfunction with thermal fans on Rainbow RB145A (as a result we have anoverheating engine, fans don't come on)

run fault codes and replace the faulty components. quick check run power and earth leads directly from the battery to the fans to ensure they are not seized up then work back checking relays and fuses.

I have a 2001 chevy impala with a 3400 v 6. when the engine is cool the fans run but when the engine reaches operating temp the fans go off.

If the check engine light is not on, I would want to check the computer with a scanner to see what the temp sensor is telling the computer the coolant temp is. The problem could be in the computer or the fan relay.

Engine overheating

I don't know if this applies to cars as well but the fan on my 2005 Honda VTX1300 motorcycle was not working and the temperature light came on a couple of times. It was a fuse. The fuse was replaced and the fan works fine now.

Cooling fan not working/ 1999 Kia Sephia...I checked the fan...needs to be replaced but also no power from the plug the fan is connected to

The fan is powered by multiple control points. The first thing to check is fuse for cooling fans. If fuse is good then check the fan relay(s). After making sure those 2 items are good then check temperature sensor on the engine. Those are the main items that control cooling fans. Some vehicles are also controlled through the ECM.

Not sure if radiator fans are working, car overheating. which fuse do I check?

LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ON DRIVER SIDE FOR FUSE BOX.LOOK ON FUSE BOX COVER IT HAS LOCATION FOR FUSES AND RELAYS.MOST TIME PROBLEM WITH COOLING FAN CIRCUIT WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BAD ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR WILL CAUSE COOLANT FANS NOT TO TURN CAUSE OVERHEATING. ON.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP SEE IF STOP OVER HEATING. IF ALL LOOKS GOOD HOTWIRE COOLANT FANS MAKE SURE FAN MOTORS ARE GOOD AND NO SHORTS AT FAN CONNECTOR WIRES.

Cooling fans will not come on unless hotwire. I have changed the fuses, one relay and changed one sensor (in motor). Also, each time I start the car, the horn beeps once.

cooling fans will not come on until engine temp is at least 212 degrees, the ECT switch is what tells the computer how hot the engine is so the computer then turns the fans on through relays and fuses,
To verify the Engine Coolant Temperature switch is faulty you would need to have it hooked up to a hand held computer and watch the info that it is sending the computer,And the use of a thermometer to verify coolant temp.
