the hole was caused by the motor mounts sagging. the oil pan now rests on the crossmember. vibration of the engine and its movement when under power. hole is now fixed with magnum steel and JB weld. but i am thinking maybe loose or spun bearing on either rod or main. have to pull down the oil pan. what gets me the most is that sometimes i makes no knocking and then it is really loud.

i am not too worried about the pan right now though. LOL. i have a pan on order.. just the incredible knocking.

i have the solution. rod cap on number 3 cylinder came loose and messed the bearing up.. no other damage is visible. got bearing on order.

Sounds like a wrist pin problem. its where the piston attaches to the connecting rod. the piston waddles side to side as it goes up and down sounding irratic. the engine would have to come apart. if not fixed it will cause the cylinder to become oval

That small hole was caused buy a pistion being broken and making that hole. that knock you hear it the broken conecting shaft from the crank shaft to the pistion head hitting the side of oil pan/everything else in the engine. and it changed with RPM b/c the fast you go the fast it hits everything. i'm sorry but this is major surgury for your engine. if go now you might be able to save it.

" hole is now fixed with magnum steel and JB weld"

sorry but that wont hold for long, best bet is go to junkers to find a new pan, then buy a new gasket.

word of advice, metal sheads off of bad bearings and will move onto other ones, if you have spalling, pitting or brunelling on the baering it is best to replace all the bearing in like with that bearing.

meaning follow the oil passages that lead away and look at those bareings aswell, they might have failed, or will shortly.

Nothing to do with fuel chemistry

As long as ANY light is on you have a problem

Are the upsteam or front O2 Sensors over 100,000 miles

My engine is knocking and I have a hole in my oil pan. I would like an exploded view of my engine

If you have a hole in your oil pan that would be a great place to start looking for the knock. Been reving it high? May have thrown a rod.

We change the oil pan gasket due to oil leak; after we finish changing the oil pan gasket we start the car & we hear a knocking noise, what do we have to do?

If it is the 3.0 you may have heard the lifters. but sometime when you leave an oil pan off for very long you will lose your prime from your oil pump and it will take an few sec to get primed. how long did you let it run for. did the the knocking go away

I have a dent in my oil pan, which seems to be causing a leak. Do i need to replace or is there a way to repair without replacing?

Most likely you just need to replace the Oil pan seal. A dent normally doesn't cause a leak. If the pan is cracked then yea, you will have to replace the pan. If it is leaking around the seal area it may have been knocked loose when you hit what ever dented your pan to begin with.

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY TAHOE WITH 150K MILES. DEVELOPED A SMALL OIL LEAK. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE THE OIL PAN GASKET. wHILE THEY HAD IT THEY DISCOVERED A SMALL OIL LEAK FROM...

Hmm with 150,000 miles i really doubt anything
It could be just a coincidence.

They could have possibly left something in the oil pan that caused the pick up tube to become blocked somewhat.

Possible transmission out not sure

When was the last time you had transmission oil changed and the tranny pan removed and the tranny filter changed? If never, this is your starting point.

The problem with these vans is that the tranny pan is at about a 20 degree angle under the transmission near the driver front tire. The problem with this design is that these pans eventually begin to leak at the lowest point of the pan, and over time you will not notice the ATF loss. Most likely your ATF level or cleanliness/viscosity may be bad.
Don't cry 'TRANSMISSION' until you get your tranny serviced (ATf oilc change, new tranny filter, clean magnets, clean pan, clean tranny).
