We cant remove the rear hubs to change the brake pads on a 96 granvia

There should be a small slot on the bottom of the brake backing plate,they should be covered with a small rubber plug,remove the plug and it will allow access to the brake adjuster, back the adjuster off and you should be able to remove the hubs.

I have a 83 Bronco 351w I am doing the brakes and the passenger side rotor needs to be replaced can someone walk me through this thanks


Personally I would replace both rotors to prevent a future brake imbalance.

* chock rear wheels, raise front of vehicle and place on stands.

* remove wheels, remove brake calliper and bracket assemblies.

* remove bearing hubs from axles, via removal of bearing adjustment nut

*remove hub seals, clean and inspect bearings, repack with HT bearing grease.

* the brake rotor bolts to the rear of the hub, you will have to remove and replace rotor to hubs, make sure all bolts are thread locked with loctite 263 and tensioned to spec.

* pack hub with grease, install seals, fitt hub assembly and adjust wheel bearing preload, install new split pins.

* fitt brake calliper and brackets, fit new brake pads,

* fitt wheels lower vehicle, test brake for function

I recently changed the rear hub bearing assembly, the brake/caliper assembly and brake pads but there is still a pulsating screech while I drive but disappears when I step on the brakes. What could it be?


Did you machine the rotors?

New pads only go on with new or machined rotors

Did you remove ALL rust on hub face,both sides of
rotors & back of wheel,caliper & pad abutements & use
anti-seize on all sliding surfaces?

Did you dial indicator the new wheel hub after installing
for turning true?

I am trying to replace the rear drivers side wheel bearing and hub assembly combined. I have having problems removing the hub assembly already on the car. What do i need to do to fix this problem


Remove offending wheel and set park brake extremely tight. Remove brake pads from caliper, and then unbolt caliper. Release the park brake. Unbolt the heater supply tube. Remove six 8mm hex bolts on the CV joint near the transmission. Remove axle. Remove four bolts on outside of housing that hold the 2 bearing race retainers. Reinstall new bearing into the housing... again this will require the EBS tool, and of course you'll have to rearrange the parts of the tool. Once the new bearing is installed, reinstall the bearing race retainers and the four screws that hold the retainers. Carefully reinstall the axle, making sure not to push the hub out of the bearing again.Reinstall six 8mm hex bolts holding the CV joint to the transmission. Reinstall rotor then set parking brake extremely tight.Reinstall brake caliper andl brake pads. Reinstall heater supply tube and wheel, torque wheel bolts to 96 ft-lbs, re-install transmission cover and suspension cover. Hi, i want to change the rear brake shoes on a 95 toyota granvia , is the hub nut left hand or right hand thread as it wont budge, thanx.


That nut is a locking nut and requires you to remove a locking washer from the hub itself, I use a flat head screw driver and a rubber mallet ( tapping with a medium strength) to free it up this usually needs to be replaced.

Automatic Locking Hub

  1. Shift transfer lever to the ``2H'' position, then move vehicle forward and rearward approximately three feet.
  2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assemblies.
  3. Disconnect brake hose from caliper.
  4. Remove caliper locking bolt.
  5. Rotate pad assembly upward then remove pad retaining clip and caliper assembly
  6. Remove brake pad support bracket.
  7. Remove hub cap retaining bolts, then the hub cap, Fig. 15.
  8. Remove housing assembly, snap ring and shims.
  9. Remove drive clutch assembly, inner cam and lock washer.
  10. Using tool J-36827 or equivalent, remove hub nut.
  11. Remove hub and disc assembly.Manual Locking Hub

    1. Shift transfer lever to the ``2H'' position and set free wheeling hub into Free position.
    2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assemblies.
    3. Disconnect brake hose from caliper.
    4. Remove caliper locking bolt.

How to remove rear brake rotors on a 2004 Santa Fe


THE REAR BRAKE ROTOR IS A LOOSE ROTOR AND SHOULD COME OFF EASILY. IF NOT, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE ROTOR IS HELD BY RUST ONTO THE HUB OR THE BRAKE SHOES IS STILL EMBEDDED INTO THE ROTOR. REMOVE THE HANDBRAKE CABLE TO ENSURE THAT THE BRAKESHOES COLLAPSE AND TRY TO LOSEN IT AGAIN. IF SEASED ONTO THE HUB BY RUST, KNOCK THE ROTOR WITH A COPPER HAMMER TO BRAKE THE RUST WITH A RUST REMOVER.

Section 04-01: Suspension and Wheel Hubs, Front 1996 Taurus, Sable Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Wheel Hub Bolt Removal
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  1. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Section 04-04 .
  1. Remove disc brake caliper (2B120), and front disc brake rotor (1125). Refer to Section 06-03 .
Brake Shoe and Lining Removal
  1. Remove brake master cylinder filler cap (2162). Check fluid level in brake master cylinder reservoir (2K478). Remove brake fluid until brake master cylinder reservoir is half full. Discard removed fluid.
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  1. Remove wheel and tire assembly from front disc brake rotor mounting face. Use care to avoid damage or interference with disc brake caliper (2B120), front disc brake rotor shield (2K004) or front wheel knuckle (3K185).
  1. Remove rear brake pin retainers (2N386). ( I think it is a T 40 torx bit you need)
  1. NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect hydraulic connections.

    Lift disc brake caliper from front disc brake caliper anchor plate (2B292) and front disc brake rotor (1125). Do not pry directly against metal caliper piston or damage will occur.
  1. Position disc brake caliper out of the way and support with wire to avoid damaging the disc brake caliper and front brake hose (2078).
  1. Remove outer brake shoe and lining (2001) assembly from front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
  1. Remove inner brake shoe and lining assembly.
  1. Position lug bolt (1107) to clear front wheel knuckle (3K185).
  1. Remove lug bolt from wheel hub (1104).

Installation
  1. Install lug bolt into wheel hub.
  1. Using a lug nut (1012), seat wheel hub bolt into wheel hub.
  1. Install front disc brake rotor and disc brake caliper. Refer to Section 06-03 .
  1. Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten lug nut to 115-142Nm (85-104 lb-ft).

2004 Toyota Camry Brakes


Raise the vehicle up and remove the rims & tires

Remove the brake pads, and then remove the calipers from the caliper retention brackets, do NOT remove the brake hoses from the calipers.

Remove the caliper retaining brackets from the hub assemblies (2 large bolts on backside of the bracket)

Tap the brake rotors off of the hubs, hit them from the back side of the rotor.

No big mysteries here, this is a very easy job.

Replacing the rear rotors on a 2003 E320


So this is what it takes to replace rear brake rotors on a 2003 Mercedes E320;
1) open the bonnet (hood) of the car and loosen/remove the cap off of the brake fluid resevior.
2) remove outer spring clamp from brake assembly (it clips in to the iner edge of the holes of the caliper).
3)using a 7 MM allen wrench, remove the brake caliper.
4) using 18 MM box wrench, remove the caliper housing assembly off of the wheel hub.
5) using a star wrench, unscrew the rotor locking screw from the rotor
6) squirt some liquid wrench on the rotor hub and knock the rotor with a hammer to work the liquid wrench in.
7) using the same hammer, knock the rotor off the hub.
8) using a metal file, lightly file old residue off of the hub and place the new rotor on the hub.
9) set the hub by screwing in the lug nuts and then screw in the hub locking screw using the star wrench, then remove the lug nuts.
10) reinstall the caliper housing assembly onto the wheel hub using the 18 MM box wrench.
11) push back the brake claiper piston to its home position and install the inner brake pad (the one with the snap clips)
12) insert the outer brake pad in the claper housing assembly.
13) slide on the caliper housing with the inner brake pad in place (over the outer brake pad) and screw in the caliper screw rods using the 7 MM allen wrench
14) on the right wheel brakes, DO NOT FORGET to slide in the brake sensor (the one with the black connector) and connect it to the connector on the caliper housing.
15) be sure to reinsert the spring clamp onto the outer brake assembly to set the assembly squarely onto the wheel (there should be no wiggle in the brake assembly after the spring clamps are installed).
16) finally mount the wheels.
17) you can bleed the brakes at this point to release any trapped air (which is unlikely) but be sure to pump the brakes after starting the car BUT BEFORE MOVING IT to re-preassurize the brake system before driving the car.
17) ONE WEEK LATER - recheck brake assembly to ensure all is okay and brake fluid.

This proposed solution is for a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 and NOT a 2005 model as stated by the limited option selection provided by FIXYA.com when initially describing the problem.
