Question about 1996 Saab 900

Car sometimes takes a long time to start

When I go to start my car, it usually fires right up, but if I go into town, and come back to it after it's been sitting for a few minutes or more, it takes at least 5 to 7 seconds to start, but it starts almost right away when it's been sitting for hours. (in the morning, going to work, and coming home from work) I have had to replace two batteries and starter so far. One mechanic told me it is the fuel pump that has a diaphram in it, that keeps the fuel at the engine, but it has probably failed due to it's age, and the gas goes back to the tank, but that doesn't explain why the car starts up right away after sitting for hours?

When the car is hot the fuel going into the engine is evaporating,The fuel mixture is to week. This happens on quite a few cars when they are warm or hot.

When a car's engine is heat-soaked from driving it can be harder to start. your spark plugs probably need to be replaced or at least re-gapped. when spark plugs age the gap gets larger and this can make the engine harder to start under these circumstances.

Lincoln Town Car intermittently won't start. Engine cranks over but it won't fire. Later it will start, sometimes several times in a row, but then will inexplicably refuse to start again.

This sounds like an ignition module issue. It will not be available from any auto parts store as it has to be programmed by the dealer.

No fire all the time

Fire--means what?

You have a NO START Condition-- most of the time

Your going to have to do some testing

What are you missing?
Spark or Fuel -when it won't start

I would put my money on a failed fuel pump
Check the fuel pressure

98 lincoln wont start has 38# fuel presure and fires

if it sounds like it usually does while starting, other than not kicking off, then its your injector fuse or relay. if it sounds different, then you might have slipped or broke timing belt.it will sound a whole lot different and even a cylinder might fire or backfire while starting. if its the injectors, it,ll just spin along as usual. no strange stuff except not kicking off
