Question about 1997 Porsche Boxster

Open Question

97 Porsche Boxster ignition switch not activating starter.

'97 Porsche Boxster with ~55K miles. Had the ignition switch campaign work back in '98. Has had a low battery for a while. We'd charge it to give it enough juice and it would start fine. Tried to start the other day after charging it and it wouldn't turn over. Tried jumping it and it wouldn't turn over - no clicking from the solenoid. There's no apparent drain on the battery - all display and headlights bright. We've looked at several fuses, have tried to start in drive and netral with nothing. Thinking ignition switch/neutral safety switch/? Haven't checked OBD codes yet. Anyone have some good suggestions on what this might be or what to do? Thank you!!

SOURCE: manually openning the trunk of a 2002 porsche boxster

It can only be done using the key fob. Othersise use button inside the car. If your battery is flat you need a donor battery wiring to a connection in the fuse box (positive) anf door lock(negative) but see your hand book.

Try replacing the battery in the key. It may be too weak to engage lock.

SOURCE: 1999 porsche boxster windows wont go up all the way

That problem appears to be in the top release. this is the thing at the top of the windshield that you release. Press the button inside of it to see if that may be the problem. it is the only thing that wouldn't let your windows go all the way up. The switch inside may have gone bad.

The ABS/PSM warning light on my 2003 Boxster came on, stays on. Specialized Mechanic said it was the ABS Hydraulic control module, extremely expensive and not available in US. Car has only 55K mile. Is it...

Yes you can still drive it. When the ABS system fails, it reverts to the old system. Meaning that when and if you hit the brakes hard enough, the wheels could lock and skid. By releasing them they will roll again. We drove forever with out ABS and most of us are still alive.

Ignition locking on by 2001 Porsche Boxster S

It is known for ignition switches to fail. Sometimes they won't turn, other times they leave the starter engaged and sometimes the radio, A/C or wipers won't work. You may crank the car to start sometimes and the key does not spring back from crank to run. Check this first. Good luck....

Replaced battery on 98 Porsche Boxster and now odometer is wrong

I had the same problem and was about to take the car to the dealership tomorrow, but I decided to try disconnecting the battery and see if it would reset itself. When I reconnected the battery the odometer mileage went back to where it was before I changed the battery. It worked!

Maybe it will work for you. Good luck!
