Good Battery, New Starter, But it wont start

I had the starter in my '90 GMC Serria tested and it was shot, so I replaced it with a brand new starter one day ago. My truck has turned on twice since then, but all of a sudden it won't start agian. I had my battery tested, and it came back good. I have battery power, my lights come on, my power locks and windows work, as well as the radio; but it won't start. I am at a loss for what to do next. Help please?

Thanks guys! I'll try that tapping trick. I can get my alternator checked no problem, but that wouldnt have anything to do with starting it, would it? If it was the alternator it would die while it was running, am I wrong?

This is a real shot in the dark but I have one idea you can try. Get a thin piece or wood like a broom stick or a dowel rod and a hammer. Place the one end of the dowel rod on starter and lightly tap on the other end with the hammer while you have someone else try to start the car. Sometimes the starter solenoid will get stuck and tapping on it while you try to start the car will un-stick it.

the reason i have suggest your starter is because you replace it

with another one, and u have a good battery so logic that you try the starter trick, but even if it sticks you still need to replace it.

Do you have 12 volts at the large post and at the small wire coming from the key switch when the starter will not turn ?
There is a neutral safety switch in the circuit that could have failed.

GMC Sierra Won't Start. Battery Good. Tried Jump

If you know the batter is good.

Check the Starter to see it is getting power.

Get a test light [6.00] and see if the starter will light up the test light.
If not - then you may need a new starter. From the sounds of it you might want to take it to a professional as this can be a very labor intense job because the starter has to come out the bottom.

Van wont start

Just maybe the battery and alt were good. You did test them, before replacing didn't you? How about the starter solenoid, starter or ground connections or cables with too much resistance. Do a voltage drop test, on all grounds, you can get to.

try car to car boost-battery charger may not be working correctly or set on low amp charge -interior lights and dash may all light but battery may not be strong enough to energize starter have battery tested if battery good than check for power to the starter if power-- starter may be shot can remove also and have tested at most auto stores free if no power battery -wiring-or connection issue would need to test fuse panel-ignition switch and starter solenoid

Wont start, new battery, relay good, starter good.

Check the Starter Solenoid mounted near the battery.Check it out in the dark...have someone try to start it and see if it sparks at the solenoid.connections may be loose. Also check/wiggle wiring harness to starter.

New battery just clicks once when key is turned won,t turn oven

check the ground to the engine, make sure the terminals are clean and tight on the starter and on the battery and have the battery tested.
24 months ago for a rebuilt starter is about the lifetime you could expect.
Did u change the battery cos' it was getting harder to turn the engine?
If the starter gets lazy (often a loss of windings due to varnish degradation) and hence a drop in power when activated. This wears batteries out and eventually the starter will fail. A lazy starter has that labored wuh wuh wuh sound instead of a faster regular sound
If you odnt find bad cables replace the starter.
