Sounds like the timing chain... remove the cover and inspect the timing chain between the two cams. There's a technical service bulletin related to this. Go to http://www.hmaservice.com/ and register. Afterward, you'll have access to manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. This should help you diagnose your problem... Please remember to rate my response to you... Thanks.

3.8 dodge runs great but has a very loud ticking/tapping under valve cover gets louder when warmed up or more rpm

Not familiar with this specific engine, but I think you have adjustable rocker arms to adjust valve lash. May just need adjustment, but inspection will show if something is damaged.

I have a 1996 gmc jimmy and I have a ticking noise

It could be that the valve clearances need doing, if that doesn't fix it then put a oil pressure guage on it and check the pressure,

Stalled the engine and now struggling to start and idle and making bad topend noise,as if valves are hitting pistons. Any suggestions?

If it starts then I would leave that possibility to last. I would remove the rocker cover and check the operation of the rockers as one may have slipped sideways and is not directly over a valve stem. t is also possible to check the valve timing with the rocker cover off. Turn the engine clockwise until the rockers on no 1 cylinder start to move watch these rockers and when you see no1 exhaust rocker start to come up then it will be getting close . Keep turning until you see the exhaust rocker stop moving up and the inlet no1 cylinder rocker start to go down. Move the crank back and forth until you get the position of movement either way moves either rocker. This is called valve overlap and if you look at the timing mark on the harmonic balancer pulley then the mark will be almost /on TDC
I would then run the fault codes as there may be other problems that caused the stall situation.

1999 Porsche 911 Misfire P0300 and knocking

there are many possibilities. timing chain, failing flywheel, and cylinder liners coming loose. the last one is probably still covered under an extended warantee and the there are updated timing chains. if you want pull the plugs and have a quick look. if they are fried, change them and that may be all.

89 cherokee. 4.2 stroker. good oil pressure but some rattling noise in top end at idle then clears up with throttle. possibly a loose rocker?

Loose rocker, bent rocker, bent push rod, loose or bent rocker stud are a few things that come to mind. Take off the valve covers and with each cylinder at top dead center, check the play on each rocker assembly and inspect for any bent parts. Visually look down, and to the side for any mis-alignment.

Knock from valve cover

Sounds like lifter not pumping up or worn out but you may also have tight valves by that i mean over time the valves sink into the head and sit tightly on the rocker arm.You really should take cover off to check noise in case a rocker adjust nut or something else isnt coming undone. While you have the cover off check all the valve clearances,You may find that it will idle a lot better if the valves open and close at the right time.It is very thin oil what was manufacturers recomendation?

Rocket cover gasket

yes just undo all the rocker cover bolts remove the rocker and make sure that you remove all the old gasket material on the rocker cover and the cylinder head then get some gasket tack(a spray adheasive) put gasket in place and make sure you only tighten them hand tight with a nut driver.start with the inside nuts and work your way to the outside
