Question about 2002 Ford Explorer
Where is the Fuel Filter located?
Actually, both of those solutions are wrong (atleast location wise) from "Guru" and completly wrong from "Wiz". "If" your Explorer is a 4dr model than the fuel filter is located on the passanger side frame rail (between the rail & rear trans. crossmember). 1st thing 1st, you do have to remove the pos. batt. cable, and you also have to dis charge the fuel system (at the fuel rail around the throttle body). its a what i would describe as a "tire style" valve, but metal, bleed it till fuel stops spurtting out ( about a 1/2 oz. or so will spurt out.) Now you can remove the metal heat shield thats in front of it and yes you'll need a "fuel line" removal kit to do this. rent it from a local parts store. Have fun!

In side the gas take.
DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE!!!
**unless you are sure on all the safty procations of this procedure. you need to empty the gas tank, disconect the battery and use a static spark line. also a lift. you need to drop the gas tank then you'll be able to remove the filter.

It's located just under the driver's seat on the
frame rail.. Under the car... it takes a special tool to remove the clips that hold is to the fuel line... most replacement filter cartridges come with a pair of plastic tools to remove these clips... be patient..

It is inside the left frame rail below the drivers door, you need a special tool to release the filter from the line. filter just snaps into its metal holder. Good luck and you can get the fuel line quick release tool at most Auto Parts store.
