what do you mean 1-2-3-4 ?

    what's your engine ? 4 cylinders? 6 ? 8 ?

most fo the 1 should be at TDC (top dead center) you need to like up all the timeing marks on the engine to 0 degrees.but do not quote me on this every car is different.

Timing marks are not lining up when turning over the eng

Timing belt or chain?
If you have chain align the dark mark of the chain to gear marks and release the tentioner . after you turn one time the mark wont match to the chain for long time.
if you have belt. the marks are on the dots on the head and block and will match every second turn on crankshaft
after you install belt/chain turn with hand ,don't start till you're sure the piston don't touch the valve .
with chain you can mark a dot on the block and head with marker to see if will come back to the same spot on same time crank and cam but is not accurate .
good luck

How much timing belt tension/slack should I have for my Mitsu Montero 3.0 v6

Much too loose ... should only be 1/4 inch (10mm) max . Be careful when lining up timing marks check again after tightening belt. if not aligned reset the belt.

Timing belt diagram for isuzu rodeo 2004 3.2 lite

Here's what pictures I have but as far as installing the belt it is VERY detailed. Not only are you lining makes up on your pully's you also need to put the belt on in a certain way. I don't know if you have the new belt but if you look at it you will see a couple of solid white lines and a doted line as well. These need to be put in a certain place as well. Not only do you line up your pully's you line up the belt as well. If you need step by step instructions, email me at csautomotivecars@att.net and I will send you the instructions and procedures and no there won't be a charge. Don't mind helping but remind me of the make, model, year and engine size of your vehicle if you do write. I hope this helps.

I am having a problem lining up all my timing marks in order to install my new belt. It seems that with crankshaft pully on tdc i cannot rotatethe right camshaht pully to line up in between the marks on...

Be carefull if you cant turn camshaft, piston is hitting valves, turn crankshaft to about 11o'clock or 1 o'clock so that piston's are some what down, now turn camshaft to timing marks, then turn crankshat back to tdc. Hope this was very helpful.

Recheck those timing belt marks. There are 2 marks on the crank, be sure you are lining up the correct ones.

Timing belt broke and i,ve tried 3 different belts, but none of them seem to work, the teeth aren,t lining up on the gears .the auto parts store say that its the right belt but its tighter than heck to get...

Check my tips and tricks on my profile page, there is a procedure for replacing the timing belt on a 1.9L there. It sounds like to me you are having a problem with the tensioner, I lock the tensioner in the release position to make belt installation easier, Hope this helps, let me know.

Time belt

Before removing belt when you rotate crankshaft the MARK will all line up as shown in the picture. Then you loosen tensioner and remove belt there is no need to rotate the pulley to remove and install belt. However if you removed belt without first lining up marks then you need to Line up Crankshaft first by turning cylinder #1 on TDC=top dead center the piston has to be all the way up on COMPRESSION STROKE then line up cam marks. Good luck its pretty simple.

Timing Belt 2002 Mazda 626

re-install belt, lining up the timing marks, crank to TDC #1 cylinder, cma pulleys have marks on them, line them up to the index marks as well. If you have a drive wheel in the air, you can pop the car into 5th gear (make sure it's chocked!) and rotate the wheel to turn the engine for alignment, etc. You can put a wrench/socket on the cam bolt to align it as well.
