    it may be, it's different on every car.

    it has 2 wires (blakc and white probalbly) and gose right into the engine block. should be a small clip holding it on after you remove that and the wires a scoet can fit over top of it. rad fluid will drain out so carfull not burn your self and to catch what you can so you can put it back in.

How do i change the radiator fluid?

Most radiators have a drain plug on the bottom tank the engine block also has a drain plug . Remove the radiator cap ,open both drains ,let all the coolant run out, if there is no radiator plug remove the lower hose , remove the heater demister hoses, with the heater control on hot flush out all the coolant from the heater radiator. with a garden hose, till the water runs clean, tighten the radiator plug or re fit the hose,put a garden hose into the radiator and flush out till the water at the block plug runs clean ,refit the heater hoses, refit the block plug, fill the radiator from the hose leave the cap off , If it has a overflow tank clean and flush it. start and run engine for 5 minutes top up radiator if needed . stop engine and drain out all water. most important that all old coolant is drained out, only buy the best coolant you can . If you make up your own use only distilled water. keep some to top up with never mix with another brand. Fill radiator with coolant top up over flow tank, run engine top up coolant as needed, refit radiator cap run for another 10 minutes check for leaks,

1990 toyota pickup is running hot and when i shut

Try with the small stuff first. Replace the thermostat. Before you do that, you should flush and refill your system with just water after the flush process. The bottle of solution that you put into your radiator to flush it and clean it has instructions, follow those. Then let the car cool down and drain the system and refill it with fresh water only. Run this water for a bit and then do it once more. Once cooled back down , replace thermostat and replace the 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water.
Check engine oil level as well, low oil will overheat engines quickly.

My 2002 buick century is loosing coolant fast. When car isn't running around 60-70 mph is seems to heat up more than normal and no heat or ac will occur. Should I replace the thermostat? I noticed the fan...

it sounds like one of several problems radiator needs flushed , water pump is bad or going, thermostat is bad, pin hole in one of the hoses, cracked head, hole in radiator, hole in heater core.if core is leaking you will notice water on the floor inside the car on pasenger side. if radiator has hole when you fill radiator with coolant it will leak froom fins sometimes only when hot. thermostat bad your car will read hot and or cold always. if stuck open cold, if stuck closed hot, after about 15 20 mins of running engine will cause radiator to boil over to over flow tank.never open radiator cap when engine is hot :) burn hazard.if pump is bad or going will notice gauge reads hot intermittent or always. will boil in to overflow tank. if head is cracked will notice water comming from side of engine block or in oil when you change oil. if radiator needs to be flushed will notice scale or gunk on radiator cap
(if you think you need help or do not have tools to perform please take to a machanic)

It goes and stops after 10 minutes. with 30 minutes cooling time it will go again for 10 more minutes. Ideas?

SOUND LIKE ENGINE GETTING TOO HOT.HAVE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CHECK USING HAND HELD INFRA RED THERMOMETER OR SCAN TOOL.IF ENGINE GETTING TOO HOT CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.MAKE SURE FRONT GRILLE AND RADIATOR CORES AND CONDENSOR CORES NOT STOPPED UP WITH DEBRIS AND LEAVES RESTRICTING AIR FLOW.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD HAVE RADIATOR FLUSHED AND ENGINE BLOCK FLUSHED SO COOLANT WILL CIRCULATE PROPERLY.

1992 lexus es300 5 sp i had a water pump put on it when i first purchased it, started over heating the hydrolic fan are not turning fast they are turning very slow, took thermostat out what could it be ?...

You should never remove the thermostat unless you plan to replace the old one with a new one. Computer controlled cars rely on temperature to adjust fuel mixtures for when the vehicle is warming up and when it reaches operating temperature. You should first inspect for any sign of coolant leaking. Drain the coolant and flush the system by flushing water into the radiator neck with a garden hose for about 10 minutes or more if needed. Then get a new thermostat and drill a small hole in the flat surface ring that surrounds the thermostat and install it and a new gasket on the housing. Replace the radiator cap also. fill the system with coolant and let the engine run with the cap off until it reaches running temperature. Top off the system and install the cap if the car runs at the normal temperature.If at any point you think the car is getting too hot, install the cap THEN shut the engine off and let it sit. You can also monitor the fans to see when or if they are coming on. Turn on the air conditioner but adjust the temperature to hot. One of your cooling fans runs off of engine temperature and the other runs off when the compressor is engaged. If it does not come on with the compressor, the fan relay may be bad. Let me know if you have questions and I can walk you through them if you need me to.

My car is running hot have new water pump i`ve check thermostat and doesn`t have one not leaking water no water on motor and trying to check too see if radiator have a butterfly to drain the water it has.

When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

===

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

===

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BEKIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

===

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat2_bing.gif open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may bepartially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do ahydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

===

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

2001 dodge neon dohc engine 2.0 radiater cracked inside a/t oil passage and mixed a/t oil and coolant . after replacing radiater I could not bleeding air.because before thermostat opining,coolant is...

Ok well there are two issues here the boiling and the potential for the transmission to be harmed by the contamination of the tranny fluid by antifreeze. First A/T fluid is not going to harm the coolant system in the least, however antifreeze in the trans. fluid will harm the automatic transmission get the tranny flushed as soon as possible , Change out the thermostat then refill radiator using 50% water 50 % antifreeze ( premixed in container) fill radiator then run the car without radiator cap add coolant as needed, put you radiator cap on and wait 5 - 10 minutes until car comes up to operatimg temp. you must observe the engine to make sure the electric radiator fan comes on after the car runs for at least ten minutes if it does not the problem is the usually the radiator fan relay or the fan coolant temperature sensor last in rare cases the fan itself. As for the air bleed usually letting the car run with the radiator cap off for ten to fifteen minutes will do it just make sure you don't remove the radiator cap when the car is hot 2nd degree burns usually hurt.

The car keeps overheatnig. It was good for a minute after putting some coolant in it, but when you drive it or just turn it on sitting in the driveway after about 2 minutes the therometer is all the way up...

if its the thermostat your lucky easy fix just replace it but wait until the engine is cold the bolts are a nightmare to get to you have to take off air hose and disconnect a couple coolant hoses move them aside to get to the thermostat housing on the side of the engine tricky getting to that bolt.

if its the head gasket flush the radiator with flushing agent
first drain the coolant from bottom radiator hose replace with flushing agent run car idle about 10 minutes then
remove the thermostat replace the thermostat housing then fill the coolant back up leave room for blue devil head gasket sealant about $65.00 follow the directions to the tea run for 50 minutes if it doesn't work that baby needs to get in the shop
hope this helps don't forget to rate if I was helpful.
good luck
