Question about 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

96 pathfinder wont start

Battery ok. The clutch switch does not seem to engage so the vehicle can start. Can I bypass? Thanks need to bypass clutch start switch on 1996 pathfinder

in a situation where a vehicle is started while in gear and the clutch not engaged the vehicle will jump very dangerous. So for safety the manufacturer has implimented 2 safety switches located by the clutch and brake pedal if the pedal is not pressed thereby activating the switch the car wont start. Check if the switch connections are ok sometimes they get stuck or get dislodged and also sometimes need to be readjusted

91 nissan pathfinder 5 speedmanual.... Clutch pedal feels stiff and when i start it in gear the truck lunges forward like the clutch it still engaged.... Master and slave have been replaced and all hyd....

It really sound like you are going to need a new clutch. If the slave or master cylinders were bad they would feel loose, a stiff pedal usually means something came apart in the pressure plate.

The beast wont start on the key, battery ok , ign switch ok, blue relay on fuse box clicks when key turned , no clicks from under bonnet, connectors inspected cleaned etc no voltage drop at battery when...

Hello! The Inhibitor relay is more than likely not pulling...If the vehicle is an automatic the selector switch passes battery when in park on a yellow wire to the relay...If a standard the clutch switch passes ground...if manual, relay is called clutch interlock...located under hood...passenger side fender...Automatic...called interlock relay...drivers side fender to the right of air intake...diagram may be to small to read but I'm limited on size...Light Green wire on clutch switch supplies ground when switch is closed pulling relay...Yellow wire off gear selector switch (park) supplies battery to the inhibitor relay...Wish I knew if your vehicle was man. or auto...See if proper batt. or gnd. is present to pull relay...If proper potential is present and the relay does not pull it is defective...Send a comment...

Of your system is working correctly except for the switch, it should continue to do so without the switch. However, if something fails in the system you risk sustaining more damage...just as removing a fuse from an electrical system will. One thing you did not mention is the compressor relay...have you checked that? It feeds power to high and low switches, so likely you have.

If there is no r-12 or freon in the system it wont come on. Try jumping the pressure switch. It's a 2 wire plug somewhere one the AC lines. Just pull it off and jump the wire end with another wire.If the clutch engages you need freon or R-12.

The A/C pressue switch may be bad as well. Also the mode switch on the control head inside the vehicle. There are many other exsisting problems pertaining to a/c. I suggest a manual from Auto Zone for many faults can be noted especially wiring can be at fault

Clutch Problem

That sounds like the engine mounts are broken, or well on their way to it. Just look at the rubbers inside the mounts, if they are cracked or damaged, they need replacing.

1991 Pathfinder Starter Problem


Have you checked your INTERLOCK SWITCH in the tranny, and while you are it, the safety switch on the clutch, thats the one that wont let your truck start unless you depress the clutch, to see if its properly adjusted. Its the one to the left of the stop light switch. You also have an interlock switch in the dash panel, but that is for the rear window. You might want to replace the clutch switch, since you stated depressing the clutch sometimes makes the starter work, Its probably worn out. Also:

There is a harness that goes to the starter right near the starter itself. The connections of the harness might be frail. It can be easily removed, especially if the truck is on a lift. Make sure the connections are solid and clean. Or have a competent person check the harness for continuity.
And for a additional insurance.

There is a BIG Connector in the engine compartment roughly somewhere mid after the battery between the fender skirt and the engine, similar to the one that connects the injector harness. That connector goes to the starter and the Alternator. You can easily pry them apart unlocking the the tab on the connector. Ensure those contact are also very clean. That should solve your problem.
