Question about 1993 Mercury Villager

1 Answer

Is it the starter

Mercury villager wont start. The inside door lights come on but nothing when I turn the key to start the van. I'm thinking it's the starter but unsure and wanted to see if it could be anything else. I replace battery about 6 months ago. No problems with it before now.

Most likely is the alternator.
jump start the car and pull off one of the cable for the battery terminal. if the car stop. then it is the alternator. if not then you have to check the regulator. it should out put 12-14v.
the battery is not being charged.

The remote needs to work if the vehicle originally came with the remote from the factory. It gives off a signal to the ring around the ignition switch to deactivate the alarm.

1995 mercury villager will not start i turn the key and all the lights come on but no click no nothing.... my husband could get it to start by jumping the starter so he replaced the starter nothing he then...

mcdevito75 her, My immediate thought is a dead or weak battery, but it could be a bad starter also, here"s what to do, inside the car turn the key 1 notch to the on position, note the dash lights, now turn the key to start and note the dash lights again, do they go dim?? if they do you most likely have a weak battery, if the dash lights do not dim, open the door so the interior light comes on, any interior light, try to start the car, if the interoir light dims, you have a weak battery, if it does not dim with the key all the way to start, check and clean the battery connections, and suspect a bad starter. Any electrical appliance can go bad very quickly. Also if the battery is2 years old, replace it.

Lost remote to disable alarm on 2000 mercury villager how can i disable it and start my van

If you have the factory alarm system, you can put your key into either door and lock and unlock the door, that signals the computer to deativate the alarm. If you have an aftermarket alarm system installed, it will have to be removed and the wiring that the alarm ties into must be restored to factory design.

Check your inertia switch. This is usually located in the rear interior of the vehicle. It has a reset switch you hold for 3 seconds. It is a safety switch to kill the fuelpump in an accident. Can trip with door closings.

No start

It sounds like you need to clean both battery cable connections on the battery and make sure they are not spread. You may have to cut off steel clamps and replace with lead kit. Also, clean the 2 smaller wires on the poitive post of the battery.

How do u reset a factory car alarm on a mercury villager 2000 model with the key

Hi,
Put the key in the drivers door and turn it left or right once the horn starts sounding. This should work it has happened to me when I had to change the battery out as we bought the van with out the remotes.
