Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2001 VW Jetta rear running lights out. bulbs good, fuses good.

Intermitent problem now is now full time no rear running lights. First one was out, then the other was out while the first was good. Now both out. My Passenger side tail light is out the bulb and fuse (i think) are good.. there seems to be no fuse specifically for the tail lighs.. it works when i turn on the blinkers. and my break lights work on both sides. But that Rear tail light will not come on when i just have my lights on at night. they never came on automatically like my headlights. I always had to have my lights in the on position in order for my tail lights to work.

VW Says there was only a recall on the Brake lights.. not coming on or staying on. That its a double connection in the bulb so it must be something wrong with the filament for the tail light portion since blinker is working. I wish it were something I could fix myself.

Almost sure it is a recall for a relay. Call the dealer, I had a 2001 VR6 with the same problem, and it was a simple, free recall.

Just had the same problem- i bought the bulbs from a pep boys type store according to the "computer" in that aisle. They were the wrong bulbs though they fit. It's something to do with the filiment. Go to the dealer for bulbs

Vw passat 2001 have no headlights working but the high beam and side lights are all ok, any ideas

I would first check the fuse for the lights. It could be blown bulbs but odds are they don't blow at the same time. Sometimes when the bulb blows, the fuse goes too so you could also need a new bulb. Good luck!

Batery will go death every 2 weeks aprox.

it sounds like you have a draw on the batt. you can test for draw by disconnect + cable from batt. then
use a 12v test light with 1 end + batt term the other to the cable end now with all doors shut all lights
and electronics off + key in your pocket also you may have to remove the engine comp. bulb to avoid
a false read the test light should be out if not you have a draw. the next step is with the test light in
place pull 1 fuse at a time till light go's out that fuse
controls the circut giving you problems
(pull dome bulb before you pull fuses no false read)
also, check any after market devices first radios-
alarms-remote starters etc.
with that said the problem may be intermitent as you
said every 2 weeks if you get no results on1st test
next time the batt. is dead (not flat stone dead)
test it again before you jump it this would be the
best chance to catch an intermitent draw.
any other ? gimme a shout good luck

Rear tail and brake lights out 97 Jetta

I believe this car has a bulb with two fillaments for side and brake lights, it is unlikely that they are both burnt out at the same time but possible. It is more likely that the bulb holder or a ground connection is rusted or loose. The fuse generally covers all rear lights.

Signal lights, fuse box and signal light relay in 2001 Volkswagen

The bulbs on these cars can be delicate. Some get replaced every year or so-( headlights, tail and brake) and some I've never touched in 8 years (my front turn signals and marker lights)

The fast blinking occurance is normal when a turn signal bulb goes out.

The rear lights are common to blow, I keep spares in the glovebox.

Make sure you were given the correct bulb, check to see that it works and isn't defective. Also there is an empty spot in the rear bulb holder- make sure you didn't mistakenly pop a bulb in there cause' it won't work.

The front right signal light is in the right headlight housing. Open the hood and on the back of the housing there are two plastic caps. One is curved and one is rectangular- you want to take off the rectangular one.

Open the drivers door and on the side of the dash there's a cover. This is the main fuse block. Use a coin or carefully with a screwdriver pry it open. To check a fuse pull it out, noting exactly where it came from, and visually inspect it to see if it is blown.

Fuse # 2- turn signal system
Fuse #4- License plate lights
Fuse #7- back up lights
Fuse #13- brake lights
Fuse #22- parking and side marker lights, right
Fuse #23- parking and side marker lights, left

The turn signal flasher is integrated into the hazzard button in the center of the dash. If all else is good and you suspect the flasher is bad, which is a good possibility, call a VW dealer and have them run your VIN# to check for recalls. The hazzard switch for some cars around your year had a recall on em'.

Left rear tail light does not work

have you had any work done on it sounds like wire may have been cut check for power at fuse and if you can get to wires close to fuse check there and if you can get to wires probe right before the bulb socket cause the socket may be the culprit .
