Question about 1999 Volkswagen Passat

Violent shaking when moving from a stopped position, loses power.

I have a 1999 VW Passat Wagon automatic (123,000 miles), metculously maintained. On Tuesday I filled it with gas, shortly after I was at a stop light, when I put started to move forward, it lost speed and started shaking violently. The shaking calmed over 30 MPG. I pulled immediately into my local CarX. They spent two days going over it . . .put in new plugs, air filter, changed oil, ran diagnostics, then called and said they could find the problem and take it to the dealer. Any ideas about what could be happening. I love this car and would hate to think about parting with it now, but don't know if it's worth spending a lot of money on it.

Thanks. I will have the gearbox/transmission checked. It may be that I let the fuel get too low. It didn't run out of fuel, but it did get low this time. The mechanic said it was missing on one cylinder, but the coil is fine.

Dear kate the problem is thaat you may be filled your car after it ranout of fuel or the fuel gauge reached the e sign . so that makes the dirt in the bottom of the fuel tank to go into you system or you filled gas with your car is working could make the same prob. but i advice you to check first your air filter its very important . and then you could check the fuel filtter and fuel pump . the oil has nothing to do here .

I have a 2001 VW Passat. It seems like it is possessed. The automatic window will go up without pressing the button. The speedometer shakes when I am stopped and shakes until I reach 65. Door locks

Best place to start is having the battery tested & replaced if needed. Then the battery cable connections cleaned & re-tightened. This is better than sprinkling with Holy water for a car.

Wipers sticking in upright position on 1999 vw passat

It sounds like they are in the "service position" If memory serves correctly do this to get them out of the service position:

Service position To get into service position:
  • After you turn your car off, tap the wiper stalk down. The wipers will move into the service position.
To get out of service position:
  • To move the wipers back, switch on the ignition and tap the wiper stalk down.

2000 VW Passat Wagon V6, 79,000 miles, automatic There's a **** when slowing down to a stop from 2nd to 1st. Otherwise, the car drives like a charm. Any suggestions?

thanks.didnt realise that j... is a no no (in england a j... is a fool.)
back to your harsh downshift.as first is a crawler gear(very low ratio),you will feel the change, but if the clunk is feed back from a driveshaft...
try this, without using any gas put car in drive and let it accelerate to max speed, then braking VERY gently let the car down shift to a stop, you should not feel any clunk unless its a driveshaft.remember very gentle on brake.....

Shaking engine, weak power, blinking check engine light

You have a bad coil pack, they usually crack from age and heat. It's best to replace them all. Check for a VW recall on this item.

2002 VW passat wagon brakes

Check the level of the brake fluid, as the pads wear down the fluid level falls slightly and the sensor reacts and gives the warning, it may happen more as you are cornering and the brake fluid moves, try gently topping up the brake fluid it doesn't need much..
