The harmonic balancer will have to come off. It will not need a puller on this one. You may need something to align the new sensor also. What happed when it quit running? Does it have fuel pressure? Is it on level ground?

The camshaft sensor on this engine was located on the passenger side of the engine. You will need to remove the serpentine belt, and you can get to it by removing the inner fender or splash guard and get to it that way. I went down from the top. There are two sensors, one is a CRANKSHAFT sensor and other is a cam sensor. Make sure you know which is which. The crankshaft sensor is at the bottom of the engine, the camshaft is right by the water inlet. It is held in by 1 or 2 bolts. If your car is throwing the code for the camshaft sensor, just a heads up. I replaced the sensor and the sensor detects magnets installed on the camshaft. The engine kept throwing the code and came to find out one of the magnets had come off the end of the cam. I am telling you this just in case you go through the replacement and still end up with the code. the camshaft sensor is not too hard to replace, it's tight but it can be done. unbolt the old and bolt in the new. Make sure you disconnect battery before tackling this project. Hope that help some..

My Hyundai Matrix car is not starting. When I turn the key to start the car it tumbles but won't turn on. I know that it is not the battery because we took the same battery and installed it into

got same symptoms with my hyundai matrix. Engine just stalled when car is not in motion (i.e traffic light, traffic jam), plus a cylinder misfire. I went online for some search (this site included). Then went for OBDII diagnostic.

Its the Crank Position Sensor/Crank Sensor/ CKP Sensor or whatever it is called. Had that replaced, and she's been back to well behaved since.

Cranks but won't start sometimes. Also has cut out while idleing in traffic and again cranks but won't start. car has new battery.

From what i've seen over the years with the Chryslers i've encountered. Your describing to the "T" what appears to be a bad Crank Sensor. I will bet money that if you replace the crank sensor it will solve your problem. BUT...Also know that a bad fuel pump can do exactly what you describe in your statement. Once the pump get hot it gets to acting stupid, but yet again so can the Crank Sensor. Still, my money is on the Crank Sensor.

MY CAR WONT START AND I AM BEING TOLD I MIGHT NEED A NEW CRANK SENSOR (NOT BY A MECHANIC) IS THERE ANY OTHER POSSIBLE REASON AND ARE CRANK SENSORS EXPENSIVE?

Hi, your crank sensor is about $60 at autozone, but there could be other reasons for the car not to start. If you'd like to do some troubleshooting, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5821173-doesnt_car_start_gasoline_engines . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with your engine size.

Replace the crank sensor first its easy and cheap. Always start with the cheapest when it could be multiple things. And they are right the crank sensor will deffinently do that.
