1995 GMC Jimmy Back Hatch Wont Open

My problem is that the back hatch window wont open, i press the button and nothing happens. Even when i press the rear hatch button nothing happens. The only way i can get it open is if i took off the back panel and pulled this lever [img]http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/870/p5290058.jpg[/img]. The lever is attached to this [img]http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/2222/p5290057m.jpg[/img]. In the second, i had a chance to replace it but that didn't do the job and now i am stumped. Any help from you experts? I'm a noob at all of this, so bare with me here.
