Question about 1994 Jeep Cherokee Country

1 Answer

Slow engine start

My 1994 Jeep Cherokee has a problem starting. It always starts up on the first try but when I'm starting it, it sounds like the battery is dying but it's a new battery. I checked the voltage as well. Does anyone know a possible problem or solution?

I don't think the starter has ever been replaced and it has well over 200k on it.

Okay. By checking the voltage, I assume you mean you checked the battery voltage and it is 12.3 or higher -- is that correct?

If so, I think I would remove the starter, take it to Autozone (or similar) and have it tested.

    Please respond -- thanks...

I think what you have is the "dragging starter" syndrome. How many miles on that starter?

What is diagnostic code 22 for a 1994 Jeep Cherokee grand limited

That code is for the engine coolant temperature sensor. "...input above maximum acceptable voltage." I would try a new temp. sensor. If that doesn't fix it, you may need to have an engine scanner hooked up, and see what the sensor is sending to the computer, and go from there.
A bad coolant temp. sensor can cause hard starting like your symptoms.

My 1994 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo will not start or stay running.turns over but will not fire, but then sometimes it will.when it does start it runs very rough and will stall if I try to restart it...

If it's been sitting a while it's always a good idea to put some sort of gas treatment in it. Ethanol added to gas nowadays is bad about getting water in it if it sets.

I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee and it always starts up, but sometimes it just shuts off randomly while I'm driving and after a few minutes of rest turns back on, the battery will still be worki

Install a new crank shaft sensor. I had the same problem with my wife's Jeep. It would run fine fore days at a time then quit. When the crank sensor goes out their is no spark or injection of fuel into the engine. This is a Hall Sensor. They can be intermittent, and affected bu heat. If your Jeep will not start, try freeing the sensor and see if it starts. Cold Freeze is used in electronics to test

Hard to start jeep 1994 grand cherokee

If the jeep just cranks but doesn't start right away, you might have what is known as the 'delayed start check engine light problem'. Make sure the check engine light comes on, in the dash, before cranking. If the check engine light does not come on right away, then you do have the delayed start problem and the jeep ecu needs to be repaired.

1994 jeep, wont start, wont run

It sounds like you may have a bad connection somewhere. Start with your battery cables and then look at all of your ground wires as well. When you try to start your jeep see if the wires from the battery get hot.

Jeep grand cherokee slow to start

THE THINGS YOU MENTIONED WON'T AFFECT CRANK SPEED. YOU'RE BATTERY IS PROBABLY ON THE WAY OUT THE DOOR. LOOK FOR CORROSION AND LEAKING BATTERYLIKE AROUND TERMINALS AND POSTS. BATTERY IS PROBABLY LOW ON CCA'S. NOW IF TALKING ABOUT WON'T START AND TAKES LONG CRANK TIMES IT CAN BE FUEL PUMP LOSING PRESSURE IN FUEL RAIL OR LACK OF FUEL PRESSURE CONSIDERING WHAT YOU MENTIONED. EVAP SOLENOID WILL USUALY SET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WONT AFFECT STARTING USUALLY UNLESS YOU HAVE A HUGE VACUUM LEAK

It sounds like your alternator may be going bad, even if you have it tested it may say it is still good but the regulators in those wont show if it is bad

The two things in your Jeep that control the air fuel ratio by temp are you coolant temp sensor and your oxygen sensor. Usually when one of these fails you would get a check engine light but not always. If you did, you can flash the the codes yourself and see what went wrong http://wiki.answers.com/Q/1993_Grand_Cherokee_check_engine_codes It also sounds like a clogged catylytic converter could be at fault. Good luck on the hunt for the cause - I hope this steers you in the right direction
