Question about 2005 Toyota ECHO

Mixing engine coolants?

I have a 2005 toyota echo. My engine coolant is low, and the coolant I have in the garage is a different color-- obviously a different product. Can I top up the tank with different coolant without harming my car?

Thanks.

Toyota did some good research years ago .. they found that anti freeze that contain silicates caused excessive wear in the water pump seals .. most antifreeze at that time contained silicates .. so toyota developed their own type .. and they charged a lot for it .. it was red in color .. it was designed to last a long time and cut seal wear to a minimum (no silicates) .. so it was a good idea to use their super antifreeze .. now almost all antifreeze can mix with other types but do you reallly want to contaminate the expensive stuff already in your car with something that might contain silicates .. in this case toyota has a good reason for recommending certain types of antifreeze .. of course they used to recommend only their own brand but i hope that has changed .. i would use only long life antifreeze that is recommended by toyota or that states "contains no silicates" .. even buying their expensive stuff isnt so bad since it lasts so long and the echo uses so little. .. i am not sure what the new long life antifreeze contains ... did they ever address that problem ?..

Most coolant bottles will tell you the make it is used for. If the bottle doesn't say can be mixed with any other coolant my suggestion is don't use it. Go to your local auto parts store and get the proper coolant for your car. Mixing them can cause a reaction with the metal in the engine.

Do I need to add coolant

You can add some plain water, or go ahead and mix with coolant. The level should be half way between full and add when the engine is cold.

What kind of engine coolant is used for 1993 toyota camry

Regular coolant. Toyotas regular coolant was died red. It is compatible with any green regular good old fashioned coolant. Adding green coolant will turn the color of the coolant brown unless it is flushed. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

I just bought a 2003 Toyota Echo and when I start the car up, the blue "low engine coolant" light stays on for about a minute before shutting off. I've added coolant, so I know it is full,...

Make sure there is no air in the system, take the radiator cap off and let the engine idle for half an hour, as the air comes out the coolant will go low, ad more coolant and then close the cap on also make sure the resevour bottle is at its mark.

My Toyota hi ace engine 2kd ft v every morning when i start it has white smoke after i drive full acceleration it works normal and the the engine oil level is increased and mixed with the engine oil.

This is usually a sign of a bad head gasket. coolant is entering the cylinder(s) and is being burnt off as steam. coolant is also mixing with the engine oil. The color of the engine oil would be that of coffee with lots of cream if the head gasket is blown. The radiator would also be low on coolant.

What should i do if the coolant in my radiator is brown looking

Being a 1992, If you have never had it flushed I would highly recommend having the cooling system flushed and refilled. It just depends on how severe the coolant strength and color is. New coolant is pink or orange in color and you may have one of these installed in your engine or mixed with the old green coolant and the color will be brownish. If thats the case I would still recommend getting it flushed the 2 different coolants don't mix well and cause it to gel in heater cores and small passages.

On the 2005 malibu, where is the radiator? And what substance do i need to put in there? It says cooliant but is that the same thing as water?

The coolant can be found at most stores that sells automotive products. You will need a 50/50 mix of water and coolant. If you had drained you old coolant you can purchase premixed cooland were no water is added. I would purchase two gallons of cooland for you vehicle and change the thermostat as well

Blue low engine coolant temperture indicator light is on

I also recently bought a 2002. According to the owner's manual the blue light does not indicate a problem unless it stays on after the car warms up. If you have an automatic it will not shift into fourth gear until the coolant warms up at which time the light should go off. Have only had the car for a week and notice the blue light goes off after a mile or two of driving in temperatures in the teens to 30's. I don't know how much outside temp affects it.
