  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt.
  3. If necessary, remove any splash shielding for easier access to the alternator
  4. Tag and disengage the alternator wiring. It may be necessary to remove the alternator and mounting bracket from the vehicle as an assembly.
  5. If equipped, remove the front alternator assembly mounting plate.
  6. Unfasten the alternator mounting and pivot bolts and remove the alternator.
  7. If installing the original alternator assembly, push out the pivot bushing as illustrated.
These are the removal instructions per Chilton's Auto repair guide. Here is a link to help replace the drive belt when you're done. Just insert the year, make, model and engine to get the belt part number and the "Routing diagram".
Best of luck on your repair.

Where is alternator located on 1996 cadillac deville? how do you replace alternator on 1996 cadillac deville?

The alternator will be located in the front of the engine on the drivers side. To replace it you must loosen the idler pulley and remove the serpintine belt, once the belt is off you must unhook any wires goin to the alternater and then there are two bolts at the bottom of the alternater holding it in place. Remove those and the alternater is loose then it may take some jockying back and forth to get it out. Obviously at this point the new one can go in the same way the old one came out.

The alternater drains the battery when the engine is idle, i understand this is proberly the diodes in the alternater. are these replaceable if so how do i do this

Its just a matter of replacing the alternator when you give the parts store your old alternator (the core) they send it it and have it rebuilt and resell it as a "Re manufactured unit"any way.

94 Camry Wide body Battery light comes on on the dash whilst driving. No fan belt squeel, and checked alternater connections, Is the Alternater faulty???

I would have to say the alternator or voltage regulator is faulty, tho im not sure if the voltage regulator is located on the alternator or somewhere in the engine compartment on this model. Hope this helps.

Wont start

Is starter engaging but is turning the engine slowly then not turning engine? (that's what I'm reading) If so, check both connections at the block and starter. If reading proper voltage 12v or better, check voltage across battery when in "start" if it drops below 9.5v the starter has failed. (you can turn the engine by hand...correct?)

Alternater Leaking Brake Fluid

i'm not sure if it is brake fluid or engine oil but i used to rebuilt alternators and the izusus have the engine oil pump integrated with the alternator, so all what you have to do is get another alternator from auto parts or find a place and have them rebuilt your alternator, im sure you will find a good place in the yelllow pages. they have a o-ring inside that when it gets damage it will start leaking engine oil, or brake fluid like you say, but definitive there is a pump behind the altenator and the seal must to be replaced
