Question about 1997 Ford Aerostar Extended

Ford Aerostar Vacuum Lines

My vans check engine light came on the other day so I took it in to advanced where they told me the speed sensor is malfunctioning. A few days later I had them recheck before I bought the part and now they tell me along with that the vehicle is running too lean, and the transmission is showing problems too.

When I put the van in drive it hesitates and idles pretty rough, and when actually driving there is a whistling sound at half throttle that goes away when I give it more gas or let off, My only guess is a vacuum leak, but I'm not sure where to start or where to find a diagram for the vacuum lines on this thing, any suggestions?

I agree they aren't technicians, but they do have the equipment to read error codes and tell me what they say. The error code, not the sales staff, told me the speed sensor was malfunctioning along with the other things I posted. Obviously I didn't trust the car to them or I wouldn't be asking the questions right?

the error code doesn't tell u the sensor is bad only that there is a fault in that circuit, it can be wiring, it can be the control module, it can be the trans drive gear, very simplified to think that an error code always means the is sensor bad, wish it where true, but based on 25 years of doing this for living it is not.

those guys at the parts store are not technicians and u where a fool to trust what they told u. here in calif they are not allowed to do this test anymore or offer car repair advice as they got sued over it by the state dept of automotive repair, u trust your expensive car repair to a discount auto parts counter person????

Have a qualified technician check these problem, be smart this time.

What you need to do is check all the vacuum lines. Listen fro a hissing noise. it is leaking some where. Any time there is a MAF, and both 02 sensors pop a code, this is the first thing to check. And fords seem to leak the most.

Sounds like a bad connector to me. Pull the connector off the sensor and look at the terminals. Do the holes look bigger than the pins? If yes, maybe you can use a paper clip or small screwdriver to close the terminals a bit so they will grip the pins tighter. Also check the wires on the connector for fraying or thinness. You may need to replace the wiring all the way back to the computer to fix this problem. Let me know if you have questions. Your sensor looks like this:

Engine almost dies when applying brake pedal. Battery dead.

Broken or loose vacuum line. Check all your vacuum lines with the engine running. Listen closely for air. Wiggle them around and see if anything changes.
