DIY problem - E81 illuminated door sill

I have a set of illuminated door sill. However, I could not find any clue to insert the plug and sockets of the cable harness because I haven't got the installation manual. Do you know where I can find it? Mine is BMW E81. thanks.

Thanks for your quick reply. Let me explain more.

Actually, I have a MINI R55. I bought a genuine MINI parts, the illuminated door sill, from UK.

However, when I unpacked the product, I found that all the parts except the cable harness are the same as those shown in the MINI original instruction manual. This cable harness is for E81.

Then I asked the dealer and he explained that most MINI could use E81's parts. But he has no idea on how to install it.

I searched from the web or even asked the MINI UK but unfortunately, no exact answer from them.

I would like to have an original BMW E81 instruction manaul to know where I could connect the cable harness.

Thanks and hope you could help me this silly problem.

    Well, thanks Murphy.

I had asked them but it couldn't help me. So, I would choose to DIY again after I got an original E81 instruction manual on this illuminated door sill.

    Anyway, thanks.

I'd take it to a BMW dealer as its still covered under warranty and the repair will be free. they may even give you a loaner while they fix it so you don't have to sit at the dealership. mention it when you call them especially if its from the dealership you purchased it from.

How do I change spark plugs toyota corolla 2002

First you will need the correct size spark plug socket and a longer extension bar for it. Most sets are not expensive to buy.
Make sure there is no loose dirt on the area your working.
Using it's cap, (not the wire), pull out the first plug lead. Insert the socket and gently push into place. Plug sockets have a rubber insert fitted to grip the plug as you lift it out. Using firm (but not rough) pressure, unscrew the old plug.
For the new plug, REMOVE the ratchet and insert the plug into the socket using the rubber insert to hold it in place. Lower the plug into place and GENTLY screw it into place, using the extension bar like a screwdriver. If you hit resistance unscrew and try again. A stripped screw thread is VERY expensive to fix. Tighten the plug to 35Nm (25ft/lb). REFIT the plug lead BEFORE moving to the next spark plug.
Repeat for each spark plug in sequence.

I have a CHevy HHr 2008 LT Installing Door Sills

You need to splice into the dome light wire. If the power requirements are too much for the dome light circuit, use the dome light wire to activate a relay that powers a new sill light circuit with it's own fuse.

I have a dodge 318 with the spark plug threads well seated into head rest of plug is gone have tried everything to get it out .do I drill it and put in steel insert.

If you don't have the proper socket for the plug & its only 1 plug that is going to have to be drilled, get the socket. If all of the plugs are damaged beyond removable then you have a job beyond DIY. If you can still get that one plug with the proper socket (not over damaged, DO IT. If not , without the right tools (taps/ dies/ magnets/ air hoses, suction, etc. your going to get spark plug bits all over your piston & valves & in the motor. TRY YOUR BEST TO GET IT OUT OR HAVE IT DONE FOR YOU. Good Luck Frank M

What is the drivers side hinge pillar panel and the drivers side door sill panel

The windshield metal post from the roof to the bottom
of the door sill is called an A -pillar
That is what your door hinges are bolted to

The metal to your right as you enter the vehicle is
called the B-pillar
That is the one with the drivers door catch

The roof down to the door sill on the rear door of a car
or rear window downward is called a C-pillar

You may hear those terms if you watch a NASCAR race

The door sills are the metal sometimes covered with plastic
you swing your feet over to get in at the bottom between A & B

You may see rubber or some type covering just past the hinges
as you look into the front fenders

Inside next to the driver or passengers feet ,on the inside,
are what is called kick panels, inside sheet metal on A Pillars

Loose wing mirrow

Check this guide as reference for solve ypur problem; this is one DIY about replace Wing Mirror...
1.- Disconnect your negative battery cable, if your Ford Focus has power side mirrors. If it has manual side mirrors, disconnecting the battery is unnecessary.
2.- Pry off the wing mirror's inside sail panel (shaped like a triangle). Insert a trim panel tool between the door skin and the plastic panel to pry it off.
3.- Carefully pull the sail panel away, minding the wiring if the mirror is power-operated. Unplug the electrical harness and set the panel aside.
4.- Open the door and hold the outside part of the wing mirror steady. Remove the mounting bolt with a socket wrench, and then remove the mirror screw with a Phillips screwdriver (the mirror bolt and screw is visible with the panel removed).
5.- Pull the wing mirror assembly from its mount (from the outside). Insert the replacement mirror assembly in place; tighten the bolt and the screw.
6.- Attach the wiring connection to the replacement mirror. Position the sail panel in place and push it against the door to snap it back on.

Hope helps (remember comment and rated this). TY for using Fixya.

2006 F150 I lost power to drivers seat, power pedals, and mirrors. Passenger seat works. Replaced the fuse but still have problem. Any ideas??

Might want to check the driver's side door sill for a splice that is corroded.

In the SCab, I have seen this closer to the driver's side kick panel, where the hood release is at ( still in the door sill ), on the SuperCrew, I have seen this splice at the back, where the wires turn up the C-pillar.
Here are some pictures from other people that had this problem.

The front, the wire with the bad splice was reported to be a blue w/ White stripe wire.

When it is found in the back, it is a violet wire

If you check the fuses for those items, you will find the fuses are fine, but when you check the switch for the item, there is no power.

It will take some time, but checking for a broken splice, that is not obvious, but the chance is high you will find one in the sea of wires in the door sill.
