Question about 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Chevy 02 Tahoe heater core replacement

I am quoted $1200 dollars from the dealership for repair almost $1000 in labor alone. I realize this is an extensive repair taking out the dash and all but I also called a local radiator shop that can do the whole job for under $500. they use an aftermarket part that they claim is made by the same company that makes the ac delco. is this true, and is there anything I should be aware of if i take it to the radiator shop versus the dealership?

Take it to the cheaper priced shop, the heater core is made by just a few companies, whether it is the same not sure, but if they were not good quality the the rad shop would have allot of expensive come backs.

Yes in a lot of cases these parts are made by the same company and packaged differently for other company's. In most cases the design is changed slightly to lower the cost of materials in which transfers to a lower cost product. It is also not unlikely to have as good performance from lower cost products. As far as the other shop, never pay up front, and always ask to see the old parts. Evin if you don't know what they are. It's also a good idea to get them to explain what failed to cause this problem and show you on the old part. Using a less expensive alternative is always a good idea unless you have heard bad reviews. Just be careful with shops that you do not know, and always get at least 3 quotes. This is simply a judgment call. I really hope this helps you find the right shop for you. Good luck.

He's probably referring to Delphi; They make a lot of replacement parts for GM and do list some as OE (original equipment). You're saving twice, once on the incredible mark up on parts purchased at a dealership and obviously on the labor. The only concern would be how well you trust the shop quoting the low price. I'd get the estimate in writing and if they are a reputable shop, I'd certainly go there. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

I would say go with the radiator shop -- dealerships have very high labor rates and a high markup on parts.

I've had some bad experiences with both dealerships and independents (nightmares, if you will).

But, the radiator shop specializes in this job and the probability they would do it right is reasonable.

After market parts are usually just as reliable as original stuff.

How to replace a heater core in a 2009 dodge journey

It will require several hours of labor just to get into the heater core. Its not so much the heater core replacement, its taking most if not all of the panels underneath the passenger side underneath the dashboard. Dpending on your car model, it may also require you to remove the glove box just to have access to the heater core.

In rare cases you have to remove the whole top dash board but most cars in general only require to remove panels underneath the dashboard on the passenger side. It's tricky to remove the heater core because it is well hidden behind many panels, a whole lot of screws to remove. Then you have to remove or cut the heater hoses in front of the engine compartment as those hoses are attached to the heater core.

I just replace the heater core in my old buick and it took some effort to undo all those panels and hoses and screws but i finally got it all done and heater works perfect. That repair at a automovtive repair shop would of cost me 350 to 400 dollars. I just spent 35.00 bucks for the heater core and another 12.00 bucks for new heater hoses and that was it, that and the intense labor involved to remove the old heater core. But i saved a huge bundle by doing it by my self, good luck.

I bought a 99 tahoe four door 5.7 350. No heat. Previous owner bypassed heater core. Need to see how heater hoses attach.

Have you replaced the heater core? If not, most likely the reason the previous owner bypassed the heater core was because it leaked. I will be happy to send you photos of how the hoses attach but I will need your email address.

How to unplug a 2005 chevy tahoe heater core

Put a full jug of CLR descaler or Plumbers radiator descaler in the radiator. Run it for a week, drain, flush, fill with antifreeze and then 'burp the system'. The last bit is very important and may well be the problem you have, the heater core is not full of coolant. Google it.

How to change leaking heater core in a 2005 dodge caravan, 4 cyl

If you are certain the heater core is leaking, I would shop around for estimates. This repair requires complete removal of the dashboard, and is not a repair for the faint of heart.

Parts are a minor portion, and labor is the lions share. If you are inclined and have the tools/patience, you can save quite a chunk of money.

You want to only do it once though, and do it right. Might also consider replacing the A/C evap while your in there.

Expect the quotes to run in the $800-1200 dollar range.

2004 chevy tahoe, dual climate control, blowing different temps

Its more then likely the temp door broken or temp door motor broken/stuck. There is 2-3 of these motors under the dash on the side of the evap/heater core box. Some require extensive labor to replace, good luck

If the coolant is in the cab they did not cause the problem changing the manifold gasket. It sounds like the heater core has failed, which is under the dash.
