Question about 2002 Subaru Forester

Noisey when turning

When reversing with the wheels turned fairly tight it makes a bump noise and feels lumpy through the drive line. I don't believe it is the front cv's I have the same problem, when turning, I get a thumping noise which can be felt through the car. I seems to get worse when the steering is turned more and only happens after the car has been on a run more than 10 minutes at motorway speeds!

'03 F150 lariat-rear end makes a whining noise when turning left or right. sometimes feels like brakes are grabbing. I think it started after submersing truck in water.Changed oil in diff. no different.

The noise usually is the clutches in the posi unit not releasing properly when turning, I've had sucess by taking the diff.cover off and cleaning as much old fluid out as possible. Install cover and add two bottles of Ford posi additive and fill with 75/140 synthetic gear lube. It holds about 3.3 litres. Drive vehicle to a parking lot with enough room to do figure eights. At low speed make fairly tight turns in a figure eight. Do this several times, then reverse your direction and repeat. This forces new lube into the clutch packs. Drive vehicle and listen for improvement,

Chevy cobalt noise knocking in front end when you turn the steering wheel from left to right. Also knocking noise over bumps.

Hello and welcome. this noise is normally caused by a noisey steering I-shaft. there is a steering shaft that goes in between the steering column and the steering gear. this shaft has a slip joint that becomes noisey. all you need to do is lube the i-shaft with some special lube and you will be good to go

Several possibilities.

If when slow and tight turns, then probably CV joints. About $100/axle, and if there is no visible tear in boots, might as well do both right and left.

If more at higher speed, and feel vibration in brake pedal, then more likely wheel bearing. Wheel bearings need press on front wheel drive, so about $200.

Last choice is ball joints, because hard to check. See if rubber boot is ripped. You can take pressure off and check for looseness, but not always reliable, and they often get tight before getting loose.
Ball joints will usually make vibration after road bump and may also make thump when braking. If McPherson struts, then only 1 on a side, about $75 each. If not ripped boot, I would do pair. If not strut suspension, then there are 2 per side.

Our 1999 ford taurus started making a load roaring or howling noise. We told that it was the power steering pump. We changed that ,but the roar is still there. It makes the noise at about 45mph. When...

Hi,It sounds like a noisey wheel bearing.you can check this by driving the car at 45 turn your steering wheel slighty to the left and back to the right.Listen for the howling noise to change,if it does you have one or both bad front wheel bearings.chances are thay both are bad. One's just louder than the other.if you are on a tight budget you can check them out by jacking your car up and put it on jack stands(safty first).Remove your wheels, brake pads and calipers,be sure to secure the calipers up out of the way.Remove the rotors. With everything out of the way now you can check the wheel bearings. You spin the wheel bearing slowly with the wheel stud this shuld turn smoothly,if you feel anything when turning it,then it is bad and it will need to be replaced. If you have any more questions just comment back and i'll answer. I hope this helps,if it does please rate my answer.Thank You for using fixya.....iluv2fish.........Ray.......

Cracking or breaking sound when turning mainly when parking

I doubt it. I heard the same noise from my old Accord when the CV boot was going out. If you heard breaking from the drive shaft I believe the next thing you'd see is it rolling down the street. If the drive shaft were making that sound you would not be able to continue driving.
