Question about 1999 GMC Sierra
My parking brake broke, so I got under there to fix it. It turns out that the 2 cables for it came loose. No problem, right ? I got the cable reattached that runs from the release handle to the brake, so I can take the brake off, but the other cable that puts tension on the mechanism to spring load it is also off. It is attached to the mechanism, but the other end is free. I can't find the place to reattach it. Does anybody know where it goes ?
When I pull the release handle, I have to actually pick the foot pedal up into the "off" position. Also, even when I have put it up as high as it will go, the dash light for the brake stays on. I am assuming that this is related to the cable being off, but if it isn't, let me know.
The cable splits under the cab. One side to the right rear-one side to the left. There is an adjustment under there as well to take up any slack.
Have you repalces your rear brake shoes? As they wear out, your parking brake cable wll become slack. You need to see how much pad you have left.
