I HAD EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR /IT HAS COST ME 81 CENTS PER MILE TO DATE AND I NEED ANOTHER FULL SET' I HAVE LOST REAR TIRES TO THE THE ALIGNMENT GOING OUT AND HAVE HAD A NOISE FROM THE REAR FOR 9K THAT THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND UNTIL THEY THE DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT REAR STRUT WAS BAD-CAR HAS 46k ON IT NOT AND IS OUT OF WAARANTY -DEALER ONLY WAN'TS TO REPLACE ONE STRUT AT HIS EXPENSE--? SHOULD BOTH STRUTS BE CHANGED AND WHAT IMPACT COULD THIS OF HAD ON EXCESS TIRE WEAR

The struts have a tremendos amount to do with excessive tire ware. If they become worn then they allow the tires to shift from the proper alignment without the alignment actually being out. Usually when replacing these type of suspention parts it is recomended to replace both sides to maintain even tire wear and safe vehicle stability. If only one is replaced then the amount of time and money will quickly exceed the proper maintainance cost and posably be a hasard to drive. Hope this you out. Good luck.

If it's only one strut bad then they only have to replace the one however get them to make it in writting that the other strut will not cost you money and if it does they should pay you the difference if ti does go bad.

and i think that will solve your problem.

2007 ford sport trac at high speeds it feels like my front end is walking all over the road but no shimmy in my steering wheel and goes straight tires look ok rotated tires problem still there.


could be from worn tie rod ends, suspension ball joints , worn suspension rubbers and failing shock absorbers
take it to an accredited suspension service center for a complete check including the rear end as the front floating sensation could be from a problem rear end suspension set up and shock absorbers
I am well aware that every tire shop says rotate tires but in reality you just move a problem tire from one corner to the other, fail to see a wear problem develop in the tires ( indicates alignment or tire case problem) and costs 4 tires at a time instead of 2 which is not really economical as well
consider this front drive cars wear out front tires at the rate of 3 to rear tires 1 and I think you get the picture (rear drive cars rear tires 2 to front 1) or if there is a case problem with a tire it is lost in the rotation process and becomes dangerous on the road

Preventing tire wear is about regular maintainence to your vehicle.
You should rotate your tires every 5,000 miles , and keep
your tire pressure at factory pressures as indicated by the tag
inside the drivers door column.
Alignment is another factor in tire wear , look at your tires carefully .
Look for any unusual wear , especally on the inside of the tires,
as this is usually the most troublesome spot.
As vehicles age , the springs lose their tension to a degree.
This causes a problem in the tire angle called "camber".
The vehicles wheels are tilted inward at the top.
Excessive negative camber will wear the inside of the tire.
Most vehicles can have this corrected by properly aligning
the vehicle .
Another wear problem can be caused by the toe adjustment
being out of specifications .
This is the most destructive angle to tires , it the same angle you use to steer the vehicle left and right .
It normally causes inner and outer tire edges to wear rough in
one direction smooth in another while rubbing your hand around the
tire.
Both these angles can be corrected by a professional alignment .
Be sure the technician inspects your front end for any worn parts,
as aligning it with them is a waste of money and time .
Always ask for a before and after printout of your alignment.

The largest vehicle expense short of a catastrophic mechanical failure can be the purchase of tires. After spending anywhere from a few hundred dollars to upwards in the thousands for tires why not protect your investment? Many tire stores offer packages for road hazard situations which usually covers tire repairs and lifetime rotate and balance as well as proration of the tire if tire becomes unrepairable.Ask your tire dealer what their road hazard packages cover? Some tire dealers even offer lifetime alignment or extended alignment service packages.

One of the most common cause for tire failure is improper inflation.Underinflated tires can cause excessive flexing of the sidewall causing the rolling resistance to increase (friction) and can not dissipate heat the way it was intended.This can lead to blow outs or tread separations.Overinflated tires can wear out the center tread and allow to much pressure to build up and cause a tire to blow out. Most vehicles have a placard in a door jam or glove
box that states what manufacturer suggests what the air pressure should be set to.If unable to locate the placard the owners manual contains the same information.This is what the air pressure should be set to.Tires have a maximum pressure printed on the sidewall this is more to advise what the tire can handle not a guideline for inflation.

A long term sign of an under inflated tire is inner and outer edge wear this causes the tire to not roll evenly across the road surface and puts the vehicles weight on the edges of the tire. An overinflated tire will
cause the the center tread of the tire to wear out.

You need to have a four wheel alignment done. Keep in mind once the tires start to wear like you have they will continue to wear that way even after the align is done.

Did you ever see the statements in the tire dealer shops stating a specific tire model will last approx. 50-75,000 miles/
This will never happen unless you have your tires rotated every 7500 miles, the front tires wear excessively compared to the rear tires in 90% of the cars/trucks.
Why? Because the front tires in most cases are the drive tires(front wheel drive) causing the front tires to ocasionally spin causing excessive wear and also the front tires are the ones that guide your vehicle down the road, when you turn the steering wheel you are turning the front tires to make the car go in the direction you want thus causing more excessive wear to the front tires, in order to get even wear from front to back tires one must move the front tires to the back tires at 7500 mile intervals, making sure the tires only get rotated to the same side of the car each and every time, if you move a right rear tire to a left front position, severe damage may occur so please keep them same side rotations.
Also have your wheel alignment checked at a tire shop each time you bring it in for a wheel/tire rotation as pot holes, hitting curbs,etc all can effect the way the tires wear if the alignment goes out.

Tire wear in middle of both rear tires


problem is with over inflating the tires,causing middle tread wear,as long as you have more the 3/32 tread wear in the middle than you are ok.always set tire pressure when cold at around 33psi,check tire inflation sticker on dar jam for exact tire pressure

Uneven wear on rear tires..


the front end will need alignment kits installed that allow for the adjustment to be made to correct the tire wear, this has to be done on a alignment machine to set correctly, just eye balling it is not an option.
