Try the oil pressure switch, that was a common problem on Gm trucks when I used to work on them, the oils switch was bad and woulden't allow it to start and the ones I worked on were on the back of the distributor.

Never in this world would an oil pressure switch cause a vehicle not to start...

My 97 gmc jimmy will not start what could it be

Every vehicle needs three basic things to start/run. Fuel, spark, and compression.

It is pretty easy to check for spark. You can pick up a tester at your local parts store. Check for spark on the wire from the coil and from the wires at the spark plugs. If there is no spark than the coil, pick up coil, module, and PCM can be tested to see what part has failed.

You will need a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure. Your year of vehicle requires a minimum of 55psi to start and slightly less to run. As little as one psi will cause the vehicle not to start.

You can try spraying a little carb spray into the throttle body and see if it will start. If it does you can probably be the fuel pump may be the issue.

Let me know what you find and I'll do my best to help you solve this problem.

when you change spark plug did you check the spark plug gap
and how old O2 sensors
then you need to know that misfire are calculated with crankshaft sensor data.
you could do a clean with combustion chamber cleaner

I have a 99 jimmy with the 4.3 vortec. I have spark, and 61 pounds of fuel pressure. when turned over it act like it starves for fuel and is so close to starting but wont even with starting fluid. I d

It can take 70psi to start a vortec engine cold. It should start on starting fluid tho.
You might want to look at a couple of spark plugs to see if they are in good enough condition to run. The spark could be weak under compression if the plugs are worn.

97 gmc jimmy cranks but won't start, have replaced everything possible but still won't start, most of the time the brake lights won't work, or the gauges goes crazy. I have changed relays,...

There are two basic reasons for not starting - no spark or no fuel, both of which are controlled by the ECM. You need to check error codes and these items - for the spark, test it at the cylinder 1 sparkplug; for the fuel check the pressure (if too high or low, problem!).

1993 GMC Jimmy won't throttle up..changed fuel pump...sounds like fuel is running back into tank

Check fuel pressure regulator.Start engine hook fuel gauge to fuel line check pressure ready then pull the vacuum hose of the fuel regulator if pressure rises 5-10 psi then its good.

Where is the reset swich located

Hi, there are no reset switches, if your jimmy does not start, you need to check for fuel pressure,(55 psi),spark, and make sure there is no security light on. If the security light is on, there may be a computer issue causing a no start.Good luck...
