Doors locks

I had the same problem. I think it is due to wearing of the internal part of the door mechanism. The handle on the inside of the door will open it. I removed the door inside panel and can see the mechanism but I cannot figure out how to remove it just yet. The window slide rail is in the way. The mechanism is connected with four linkages, the top lock plunger, the door handle rod, the door key rod and the solenoid that actuates the whole thing. The solenoid is pulling but it can't pull hard enough to overcome what is worn. The key also does not overcome it. The door handle will.

Hope that helps........

I can't open the rear driver side door on my 2002 Jeep Liberty...any ideas? It locks and unlocks, but when I try opening it by pulling the handle, it appears to be jamming on something and won't open....

the retaing clips have probably broken, and the plunger rod has fallen down in the door, its really hard to get the door panel off with the door closed, but it can be done without destroying it, just gotta be really careful. good luck.!!

Driver door panel removal and re-connect door pull

You most likley have a damaged inside door handle. To remove the door panel, you must first remove the handle bezel. The trim piece around the handle. It is held in place by 4 retainer tabs, take a small flat screw driver, insert it between the bezel and handle. Gently pry away from the handle. If you look in the crack around the handle you will see the tabs. When you get that off, remove the switch assembly by prying up on it gently, unplug the wiring. There are 2 screws in the door panel where you pull the door shut, remove those also. Start at the bottom front of the door panel, pull outward firmly, but not violent. The retainers will come out, you will most likley break some, this is common. The inside handle is about $45 from your dealer. If it is the handle it is held in with 1 rivit, drill it out with a 3/16 drill. Replace the handle, reassemble. Good Luck.

Driver's side interior door handle snapped off

there is plastic snaps that attatch the panel to the door all the way around the panel which you can buy a tool to remove the panel without breaking the snaps, the door handle may have a cable hooked to it that releases the latch and it might be stretched causing the handle to pull hard

Driver side exterior door handle pulls the locking mech. down when the handle is lifted. can open if 1)time lifting the handle with pressing the fob button just right, or 2) someone holds down the unlock...

Take the door panel off the inside of the door. (Should involve screws at the bottom, plus bolts through the interior handle. Then pull out at the bottom, and lift upward Google for expedition door panel removal for more specifics if needed).

It sounds like the exterior handle linkage is binding against the lock button linkage. Actually looking in while pulling the handle would confirm. You then should be able to just bend the rods a bit to move them apart.

The handle mechanism wears over time. I went on eBay, bought a color matching handle for under $20 and replaced it myself. You have to be careful when removing the plastic panel bezel that surrounds the handle, drill out two rivets and your door will open like new!
