1996 Chrysler Sebring Conv.- Power Drain or Damaged Crank Sensor?

I have a 1996 Chrysler Sebring Convertible, 2.5L that I bought last year. After putting a grand into it, and rarely driving it, I had to replace the battery. It drove fine for a while after that, but now that I've been driving it more I'm having problems starting it. Tonight, it completely died. Just prior to it going "black," the battery or "charging system" light came on. It still drove fine, but the radio would go out, then come back on for the last 10 min. of driving home. The lights did not dim. The car won't start now. No grinding, no noise at all. Total blackness. I checked the security "chip" to make sure it was all the way in (the car won't start without it). 4 days ago a valet parking attendant said he couldn't get my car started, he took the chip out and put it back in and it started and ran just fine. Had the alternator checked a couple of months ago and it was ok. Is it a power drain or damaged crank sensor?

Thanks and will do. The weird thing is the indicator light that surrounds the ignition switch (where I put the key in) is flashing a green light and ticking very an old wind up clock. It's been doing that all night. Also, the security system is still arming. The flashing light and ticking sound only occurs if the key entry is in the "lock" position (with or without the key). Does anybody know if there is a kill switch on the column and if so, how the heck do I override it?

Clean it up and spray it with some solvent and let it soak...the o-ring is probably can also tap it with a rubber mallet to free it up. Of course, the retainer bolt has to be removed.
I hope this helps.

I have a 1996 Chrysler Sebring LX Convertible. Will the O2 sensor stop the car from starting?

No. I would say replace the coil packs as they have probably gone bad. Fuel pump not coming on might be an issue but you can check power to both to make sure.

1996 sebring conv. got it used. had been left out

Ouch. not only have large proportions of your chassis wiring been damaged, several of the car computers have probably been water damaged. have a garage check over the electrics. you may have bought yourself a lemon.
