Question about 1989 Chevrolet Camaro
Hard to start...won't idle very long.
Hi, this is normally a fuel transfer issue. i recommend changing the fuel filter and fuel pump if not done already. I also would change the air filter as well.this will help with the air and fuel flow.
If possible, it would help even more if you would change the spark plugs and wires as well.
To top it off, Add a fuel system cleanser. Techtron makes some of the best fuel additives on the market. This type of fuel system cleaner will scrub the fule lines and intake as well, in return, cleaning out all carbon deposits that may be causing spuddering and obstructions.

I had that problem when I tried the original coil pack. Since there's one loose, I tried the one that was already mounted. What happened is that it would idle rough, stall most of the times, and have backfires as well. Look for the coil pack and maybe spark plug wires. to check for spark plugs, take out one, and you should have the approximate status for ll the other 5.
