Is this happening while it is running? or while not running?
do you have a keyless entry on the vehicle?
if it has keyless entry this is normally what happens when the battery starts to go bad in the remote.
or if you have an alarm, a lot of them have a fail safe that unlocks the door if it is running after you close the door so you dont lock the keys in the ignition.

Could be a bad setting in the security system, a bad door sensor or a faulty control module.

Nissan xterra door lock

sounds like an intermittent short in the wiring, a good place to start looking is where the loom goes through the door by the hinges, this is a place where the get a lot of wear, start with the drivers door and remove the door panel and check for any obvious chaffs in the wiring, (maybe give it a little wiggle).

Doors lock when unexpectedly some time long after I leave the vehicle

Your car has a security function, which assures that the vehicle is locked when left without driver for a while. Same happens if you unlock the doors with the remote and don't open any doors for a few minutes. The doors will lock themselves.

Dodge Durango Automatic Door Lock problems

if you have a factory alarm, or an after market alarm, this will click in sometimes if there is a problem with the alarm and cause the locks to click open and closed... you are better off just disconnecting the alarm sometimes tho this will disable the power locks, so try taking it to a show that does nothing but alarms and such, and have them disconect the door lock feature on the alarm that way you can still use the power door locks... hope this helps you out....
