Question about 1987 Ford Ranger
I am looking at a 1987 Ford Ranger to buy. It's had a motor and transmission swap. It now has a 289 crate motor with a C4 transmission. While driving at slower speeds such as 20 mph if I let off the gas it downshifts on its own hard jerking the truck forward. I was wondering what could possibly be wrong? Is it the tranny or something else telling the tranny to downshift.
Transmission sensor.your gear ratio was not set up properly..Its supposed to be mapped out soo the tranny shifts at a neutral rpm(around 2500-3400 rpm) its punching into gear correct?could have been a rebuilt tranny in which case they just replace the current problem..Or it could be a flywheel.1st thing to get done is to change the transmission fluid and filter.Goto midas or somewhere like they and they call it a flush and fill and it costs around $160 which is best case scenario.
