Question about 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Got a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser and am replacing the Timing chain and water pump. I see the water pump in there but cannot get at all the bolts. The large metal plate that goes on the front of the timing chain is all loose and everyting is taken apart. All bolts and damper and mounts loose and bolts removed all external bolts and belts are off too. I jack up the motor as far as I can jack it and still the plate will not come out and I cannot get at the water pump. How do you get that big plate out or get to the water pump ? i have a 2004 pt cruisre 2.4 DOHC and the timming belt broke is this a 0 tolerance engine?
It's a pain to get out I just did mine belt and water pump it took about 3 times as long as I thought.
Make sure all the bolts are loose, make sure you have removed the tranmission mount as it gives you more room to move the engine. It's suggest you take the exhaust off as well as you can damage it if you jack the engine up too high. Lossen the bolts on the motor mount across from that plate, you will not be able to remove the motor mount but you can spin it allowing you to get that big plate out.
